Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNFPA involves providing reliable and safe driving services to the staff at the Country Office, as well as to other UN officials and visitors. The role is essential for ensuring that personnel can travel safely and efficiently to various locations, thereby supporting the organization's mission. The Driver will report directly to the Administrative Assistant and will be expected to uphold the highest standards of discretion and integrity. This position is critical in maintaining the operational efficiency of the UNFPA Ghana Country Office, especially as the organization implements its new five-year 8th Country Programme for 2023-202
  • The Driver will be responsible for not only transporting staff but also for managing vehicle maintenance and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. A client-oriented approach, courtesy, and the ability to work with diverse individuals are key expectations for this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: driving office vehicles for the transport of UNFPA staff, officials, and visitors; delivering and collecting mail and documentation; meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and managing visa and customs formalities when required. The Driver must keep abreast of traffic and road conditions, ensuring safe and timely arrivals for meetings. Responsibilities also include managing all aspects of vehicle maintenance, conducting minor repairs, cleaning the vehicle, and arranging for major repairs and services to ensure the vehicle is in good running condition. The Driver will maintain daily vehicle logs, assist in preparing vehicle maintenance plans and history reports, and ensure the safety and custody of the vehicle and its tools. Additionally, the Driver may act as a translator in the local language for official passengers when necessary, guide and coach newly recruited drivers, ensure that all required driving training is completed, and assist Country Office staff with general administrative duties as required. The Driver may also be asked to perform any other duties as requested by the Supervisor and the UNFPA Management team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have completed Secondary Level Education. A minimum of three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system is required, along with a proven safe driving record. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills are essential. Candidates should also have skills in minor vehicle repairs and maintenance.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is the completion of Secondary Level Education. This foundational education is necessary to ensure that candidates have the basic knowledge and skills required for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least three years of relevant work experience as a driver, particularly in an international organization, embassy, or within the UN system. This experience should demonstrate a safe driving record and familiarity with the responsibilities associated with driving for high-level officials and managing vehicle maintenance.

Languages:
A basic knowledge of the English language is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is necessary for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not explicitly required.
