Job Overview: The Driver position is a crucial role within the Abidjan Resident Office (RO) team at the EBRD. The primary responsibility of the Driver is to ensure the safe and efficient transport of authorized personnel using EBRD official vehicles. This role involves driving within Abidjan and occasionally to other locations within Côte d'Ivoire and neighboring countries. The Driver is expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism and adhere to all safety regulations and protocols. In addition to driving duties, the Driver may also provide clerical support as needed, which includes tasks such as delivering and collecting mail, answering phones, and recording business transactions. The position requires a commitment to safety, punctuality, and a thorough understanding of local driving conditions and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
Safely and efficiently transport authorized personnel to and from airports, transport hubs, meetings, and appointments for official purposes.
Operate the official vehicle safely in all local conditions, employing defensive driving techniques.
Adhere strictly to the EBRD's Code of Conduct, Driver Rules of Conduct, and Travel Safety Mandatory Procedures.
Comply with local laws and speed limits, ensuring all passengers wear seat belts at all times.
Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs and avoid using mobile phones while driving, except for hands-free communication.
Follow United Nations Department for security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security and Safety (UNDSS) procedures for route planning and security management.
Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy, clean, and equipped with necessary safety equipment before and after each trip.
Provide clerical support as needed, including mail delivery, document collection, and other errands.
Accurately record and report weekly transport logs, fuel usage, maintenance, and cleaning activities. 1
Ensure the vehicle maintains valid registration, insurance, and compliance with local vehicle regulations. 1
Maintain a professional appearance and identify alternative routes when necessary. 1
Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle checks as directed.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Driver position should possess the following qualifications:
A valid driving license and a proven capability in defensive driving.
Professional driving experience with a clean driving record.
Thorough knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
Familiarity with the city’s roads and the broader road networks in Côte d'Ivoire, with a willingness to drive throughout the country and occasionally to neighboring countries.
An Advanced Driving Training Certificate is preferable.
Basic skills in minor vehicle repairs and maintenance.
Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to teamwork.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional certifications related to driving or vehicle maintenance may be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a corporate or diplomatic environment. Experience with international organizations or NGOs is a plus.
Languages: Proficiency in English and French is mandatory, both verbal and written. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is a fixed-term contract for a duration of 2 years. The role is based in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, and may require occasional travel to neighboring countries. The EBRD promotes a flexible working environment, expecting employees to work in the office 50% of their time.
