Job Overview:
As a engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Project Engineer within the SCE Department (Project Portfolio Management Group) at CERN, you will play a crucial role in the delivery of complex construction projects. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate interfaces with both internal and external stakeholders throughout the design and construction phases of projects. This role requires you to ensure smooth collaboration while adhering to technical specifications, scheduling, budgetary constraints, and safety objectives. You will be involved in feasibility studies and preliminary designs, coordinating civil engineering design services with external design offices, and leading the submission of detailed designs to CERN users. Additionally, you will participate in the preparation of invitations to tender, selection of firms, and decisions related to designer or contractor selection. Your role will also involve supervising civil engineering works on-site, ensuring compliance with contractual design drawings and specifications, and monitoring measurements, payments, costs, and schedules. You will be responsible for organizing hand-over procedures for civil works and ensuring that all safety measures are implemented on-site to minimize the accident rate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in feasibility studies and preliminary design of new projects, coordinating civil engineering design services with external design offices and other equipment/services.
  • Lead the submission of detailed designs to CERN users.
  • Prepare invitations to tender and assist in the selection of firms, opening of offers, and decisions related to designer or contractor selection.
  • Supervise the execution of civil engineering works on-site, ensuring compliance with contractual design drawings and specifications.
  • Liaise with external consultants (architects/engineers) while monitoring measurements, payments, costs, and schedules.
  • Organize hand-over procedures for civil works and follow up on any subsequent work required to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Implement all safety measures on-site to maintain a low accident rate.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. A professional background in Civil Engineering or a related field is required. Candidates should possess either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. It is also essential that candidates have never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required, or alternatively, a PhD in the same or a closely related discipline. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in civil engineering principles and practices, as well as project management skills.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 6 years of post-graduation professional experience if holding a Master's degree. For those with a PhD, no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience is acceptable. Experience in project coordination and construction management is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language. Proficiency in both languages is considered an asset and will enhance communication within the international environment at CERN.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the position is fully onsite. The target start date for this role is January 1, 202

Stand-by duty may be required, as well as work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays, depending on the needs of the organization.
