Job Overview: The Driver position at UN Women PNG Country Office is crucial for providing reliable and safe driving services to UN Women personnel and high-ranking UN officials. The role requires a strong sense of responsibility, discretion, and integrity, as well as an excellent understanding of protocol and security issues. The Driver will be responsible for transporting authorized personnel, delivering and collecting mail and documents, and ensuring that all safety regulations are adhered to during transport. The position also involves providing basic administrative and clerical support to the office, demonstrating a client-oriented approach, courtesy, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. The Driver will report to the Operations Associate and work under the guidance of the Operations Manager, contributing to the overall efficiency of the office operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide reliable and secure driving services, including transporting authorized personnel and delivering documents to various locations such as government offices and UN offices.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including verifying that all passengers wear seatbelts and taking immediate actions in case of accidents.
Maintain daily vehicle logs, monitor gas consumption, and contribute to vehicle maintenance plans.
Ensure the assigned vehicle is kept clean and in good working condition, performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs as needed.
Maintain all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, including insurance and first aid kits.
Assist office personnel with administrative tasks such as filing and photocopying, and support the mailing and distribution of publications.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of secondary education is required.
A valid driver’s license is mandatory.
At least 2 years of experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record is essential.
Excellent driving skills and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations are required.
Skills in minor vehicle repairs and a commitment to environmental sustainability through responsible driving are necessary.
Educational Background: The position requires the completion of secondary education. A valid driver’s license is also a prerequisite for this role, ensuring that the candidate is legally permitted to operate a vehicle in the country.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A proven safe driving record is essential, demonstrating the candidate's reliability and adherence to safety standards.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, along with working knowledge of Tok Pisin. Knowledge of another official UN language such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish is desirable, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse UN environment.
