Job Overview:
The National UN Specialist Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting international cooperation and partnership-building initiatives for tribal development. This position is based at the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in New Delhi and involves extensive research, coordination, documentation, and stakeholder engagement. The volunteer will facilitate collaboration between the Ministry, UN agencies, and international partners, focusing on knowledge exchange and joint initiatives aimed at improving development outcomes for tribal communities. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying global best practices, developing collaborative programs, and supporting the mapping of international interventions relevant to tribal welfare. The volunteer will also assist in organizing international conferences and workshops, contributing to the promotion of tribal culture and heritage, and fostering youth leadership opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the National UN Specialist Volunteer include:
  • Supporting the identification, documentation, and compilation of global best practices across sectors such as education, health, and livelihoods that benefit indigenous communities.
  • Developing bilateral and multilateral collaborations through knowledge exchange, joint initiatives, and cultural programs.
  • Facilitating Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and institutional partnerships between the Ministry and international stakeholders.
  • Mapping international interventions and funding opportunities for tribal communities to align with national priorities.
  • Identifying key areas of intervention and providing analytical inputs for decision-making.
  • Preparing concept notes, policy briefs, reports, and communication materials related to tribal development.
  • Organizing international conferences, workshops, and knowledge-sharing platforms.
  • Establishing monitoring and evaluation frameworks for international partnerships.
  • Promoting tribal art, culture, and languages at regional and global platforms. 1
  • Supporting initiatives for youth leadership and capacity-building opportunities for tribal youth.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be members of a recognized Scheduled Tribe and preference will be given to youth with intersecting vulnerabilities such as gender, income, and disabilities. The ideal candidate should possess strong research and analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to promoting social inclusion and equity. Familiarity with international cooperation frameworks and experience in stakeholder engagement will be advantageous. The candidate should also demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and a strong sense of ethics and values in their work.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background in social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field is required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of tribal development issues and policies, as well as the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have prior experience in development work, particularly in areas related to tribal welfare, international cooperation, or community engagement. Experience in research, project management, or working with governmental and non-governmental organizations will be beneficial. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a track record of successful collaboration and partnership-building.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Hindi or other regional languages spoken in tribal areas will be considered an asset. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to tribal communities may also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in New Delhi, where the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is INR 70158.41, and additional benefits include health and life insurance, annual leave, and access to learning resources. The volunteer is expected to be culturally sensitive and adapt to the local environment.
