Job Overview: The Project Management Specialist will be an integral part of the Projects Management Support team at FAO headquarters in Rome. This role involves supporting the development, review, and outreach of project cycle and corporate project/programme management policies and procedures. The specialist will work closely with various units within FAO to ensure that project management practices align with the organization's strategic framework and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will perform a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Programme Officer, including but not limited to: contributing to the development and updating of project and programme monitoring and management policies; supporting Project Task Forces in project cycle aspects; conducting research and data analysis related to projects and programmes; assisting in the operational clearance and closure of FAO projects; supporting the Programme and Project Review Committee secretariat; contributing to outreach efforts for effective communication of project cycle changes; preparing training materials and coordinating events; maintaining accurate records and archives; and performing other duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in development studies, political science, business or public administration, public policy, economics, or a related field. Those with a bachelor's degree must have two additional years of relevant professional experience. A minimum of three years of relevant experience in project management, results-based management, outreach, and capacity development is required. Candidates should also demonstrate familiarity with FAO Project Cycle and related tools, as well as strong analytical and drafting skills in English.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in a relevant field is mandatory. For candidates with a bachelor's degree, two additional years of relevant professional experience are required to meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
Experience: The position requires at least three years of relevant experience in project management, results-based management, outreach, capacity development, project operations, or project monitoring and evaluation (M&E). Experience in developing policies and procedures for project management is also essential, along with familiarity with operational and financial procedures related to project implementation.
Languages: A working knowledge (level C) of English is mandatory. Additionally, limited knowledge (level B) of another FAO official language such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian is considered an asset.
