Job Overview:
The Associate Economics Officer position is situated within the Economic Analysis and Operational Support Division (EREA) of the Economic Research and Development Impact Department (ERDI) at ADB. This role is pivotal in contributing to economic research and operational support, focusing on empirical research related to economic development in Asia and the Pacific. The officer will engage in reviewing economic analyses of ADB project documents, conducting empirical research, contributing to flagship publications, and supporting technical assistance project development and implementation. The position requires a proactive approach to economic research, data analysis, and collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance ADB's impact in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Economics Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Conducting empirical research on economic development issues such as poverty, inequality, labor markets, and climate change.
  • Preparing and analyzing data for research projects, including impact evaluations and thematic studies.
  • Reviewing draft loan and grant project documents and providing support for project economic analysis.
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical assistance (TA) concepts and papers, including monitoring TA implementation and outputs.
  • Coordinating with regional departments and government agencies to organize dissemination events and workshops.
  • Supporting the preparation of briefings and reports for management and the board.
  • Engaging in knowledge sharing and collaboration with other departments and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in economics or a related field, along with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in empirical research focused on economic development. A solid understanding of development economics, microeconometric methods, and statistical survey methodology is essential. Additionally, candidates should have hands-on experience in managing research projects, including contracting and disseminating research outputs. Proficiency in data management and analysis using advanced econometric/statistical tools, particularly STATA, is required, along with strong data visualization skills. Familiarity with the operations of multilateral financial institutions is also beneficial.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in economics or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background should provide a strong foundation in economic theory, quantitative methods, and empirical research techniques relevant to economic development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, specifically in empirical research related to economic development. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of conducting research, analyzing data, and contributing to publications or reports in the field of economics.

Languages:
Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this role. Candidates who possess additional language skills relevant to the Asia-Pacific region may have an advantage, although English is the primary language of communication within ADB.

This is a fixed-term appointment for an initial period of 3 years, with the possibility of extension for up to 2 additional years based on ADB's needs and the candidate's performance.
