Job Overview:
The Sustainable Solutions Officer position is a critical role within the Operations Coordination Unit of the Pacific Department at ADB. The officer will be responsible for providing technical support in the development of ADB's climate change, environment, and disaster risk management agenda. This role involves working closely with regional teams to conduct upstream analysis, develop country partnership strategies, and manage annual programming. The officer will also coordinate activities, compile and analyze thematic and sector information, and support sector teams in project design and implementation. The position requires a proactive approach to integrating climate change considerations into development strategies and ensuring that ADB's initiatives align with global climate goals. The officer will engage with various stakeholders, including implementing agencies and ministries, to maintain an overview of climate operations and support the development of climate change investment projects and technical assistance programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Sustainable Solutions Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Integrating climate change, environment, and disaster risk management into country partnership strategies and annual programming missions.
  • Supporting engagement with implementing agencies and ministries on climate change initiatives.
  • Maintaining an overview of climate operations, including lending, non-lending, public-private partnerships, and non-sovereign operations.
  • Conducting research, data collection, and analyses to support project development and policy work.
  • Providing technical inputs for the development, processing, implementation, and monitoring of climate change investment projects and technical assistance programs.
  • Preparing knowledge products, speeches, briefing notes, and presentation materials for senior staff and management.
  • Developing and implementing climate change communication and knowledge management plans.
  • Coordinating with colleagues to prepare and update climate-related work and accomplishment reports.
  • Participating in internal working groups as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Sustainable Solutions Officer position must possess a Bachelor's degree in climate, environmental sciences, economics, engineering, or related fields, along with advanced training. A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in climate change mitigation and adaptation is required, including experience in climate change policy, climate finance, and project development. A broad understanding of the climate change agenda, policy, and strategy is essential. In-depth experience in at least one sector, particularly in Pacific Developing Member Countries (DMCs), is preferred. Knowledge of development organization's products, processes, and systems is also advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate experience in conducting research and producing analytical and technical reports in English for diverse audiences, as well as strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as climate science, environmental science, economics, or engineering. Advanced training in these areas is also necessary to ensure that candidates have the requisite knowledge and skills to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least 8 years of work experience in climate change mitigation and adaptation, with a focus on climate change policy, climate finance, and project development.
