Job Overview:

The intern will work under the guidance of the Programme Officer for SDG Localization & NUA Advancement Programme, engaging in various tasks that support program development and implementation. The role involves conducting research, analyzing urban development issues, and assisting in the engagement with member states and regional bodies. The intern will also contribute to monitoring political and humanitarian developments relevant to UN-Habitat's mandate, ensuring that the organization remains responsive to the evolving needs of the region. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international development and urban planning while working within a dynamic team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: assisting in program development through research and analysis; supporting UN-Habitat's engagement with member states and regional intergovernmental bodies; researching the impact of ongoing crises in the Middle East on urban development; identifying and mapping strategic priorities of governments; monitoring key regional developments; supporting the timely delivery of program tasks; mapping relevant partners and stakeholders; conducting literature reviews; drafting presentations and concept notes; tracking schedules and deadlines; coordinating data collection from regional colleagues; keeping meeting minutes; providing logistical support for conferences and events; and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or have graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, is required. Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. A background in political science, international relations, development studies, economics, urban planning, or a related field is preferred.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program. Alternatively, applicants may have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program. A field of study closely related to the internship is essential, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is mandatory.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. Experience in project management, research, proposal development, or event organizing is desirable, as it will enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the team's objectives.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required for this internship position, as these are the primary working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
