Job Overview:
The intern will provide essential support to the Basic Services and Climate Change Programme at UN-Habitat Egypt. This role involves assisting with program management, operational and administrative tasks, and contributing to various projects related to sustainable mobility, climate change adaptation, and water and sanitation. The intern will engage in fieldwork, including site visits for the Cairo Bike project, and will be responsible for drafting documents, conducting research, and supporting communication efforts. The position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in urban planning and development while working within a UN framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide effective program management support, including: - Assisting with the Cairo Bike project through site visits and documentation. - Coordinating with stakeholders such as the Cairo Governorate and NGOs. - Supporting the development of concept notes and conducting research. - Drafting visibility and communication plans. - Assisting in event organization and planning. - Collecting and processing data as needed. - Conducting literature reviews and market research.
  • Provide operational and administrative support, including: - Drafting meeting minutes and agendas. - Proofreading and editing program documents. - Preparing presentations in English and Arabic. - Drafting formal correspondence in both languages. - Maintaining proper filing of program-related documents. - Undertaking additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
b. Be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent.
- Must be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its ideals.
- Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Preferred areas of study include political science, business, economics, civil engineering, urban design, or related fields.
- Skills in data visualization, communication, and familiarity with Adobe software and AutoCAD are preferred but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be enrolled in or have completed a relevant degree program, such as a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in fields related to urban planning, civil engineering, political science, or development economics. Applicants must provide proof of enrollment or graduation as part of their application.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates with experience in NGOs, international organizations, or government work are preferred. Relevant volunteer experience may also be considered beneficial. The internship is designed for students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the field of urban development and sustainability.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable, and familiarity with another UN language is also considered an asset. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, making proficiency in these languages advantageous.
