Job Overview:
The position of Individual Contractor for Advocacy and Outreach within UN-OHRLLS is pivotal in enhancing the organization's communication strategies and outreach efforts. The contractor will be responsible for redesigning and maintaining the LDC-V conference website, ensuring it is user-friendly and mobile-responsive. Additionally, the role involves enhancing the corporate website of UN-OHRLLS, which includes updating content and improving navigation for better user experience. The contractor will also produce a variety of digital and multimedia advocacy materials, such as infographics, videos, and social media assets, to support outreach campaigns related to the Midterm Review (MTR) of the Doha Programme of Action, scheduled for 202
  • This position requires a proactive approach to digital communications, branding, and outreach, with a focus on raising global awareness of the challenges faced by LDCs and strengthening engagement with various stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual contractor will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Redesigning and developing a fully functional LDC-V conference website that incorporates improved user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, as well as an updated information architecture.
  • Enhancing the UN-OHRLLS corporate website by updating content, improving navigation, and optimizing performance, ensuring regular maintenance and updates are conducted.
  • Producing a suite of digital and multimedia advocacy materials that support outreach campaigns, including but not limited to infographics, videos, and social media assets.
  • Collaborating closely with the Head of the Advocacy and Outreach Unit and other designated officers to align communication strategies with the overall goals of UN-OHRLLS.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders, including Member States, civil society, and youth, to promote the objectives of the Doha Programme of Action and raise awareness of the development challenges faced by LDCs.
  • Utilizing advanced website content management systems, particularly Drupal, to manage and update web content effectively.
  • Applying graphic design and multimedia software skills to create visually appealing and informative advocacy materials.
  • Ensuring that all digital communications adhere to accessibility standards and best practices in UX design.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in public information, communications, journalism, marketing, web development, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Proficiency in MS Office applications is required, along with strong verbal and written communication skills. Candidates should have advanced expertise in website content management systems, particularly Drupal, and proficiency with graphic design and multimedia software such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Canva. A solid understanding of digital communications strategies, user experience (UX) design, and accessibility standards is also essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as public information, communications, journalism, marketing, or web development. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree, they must also have additional qualifying experience that compensates for the lack of an advanced degree. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of digital communications and advocacy work within the context of international organizations.

Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public information, strategic communications, web development, or related fields is required for this position. Candidates with experience working with international organizations and knowledge management platforms will be viewed favorably. Prior experience with the United Nations system is considered an asset, as it provides valuable insights into the organization's operations and communication strategies.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French is desirable, as it may enhance communication with a broader range of stakeholders and facilitate engagement in multilingual contexts.
