Job Overview: The Senior WASH Officer will work under the direct supervision of the WASH Coordinator, providing essential technical assistance and support for the design, planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of WASH program/project activities. This role is crucial for achieving the program's goals and objectives, ensuring that the WASH initiatives are effectively executed and aligned with the organization's mission. The officer will be responsible for collecting and maintaining information on project activities, assisting in proposal formulation, and acting as the focal point for water station rehabilitations. The position requires coordination of Emergency Water Trucking (EWT) efforts and collaboration with local stakeholders to define the WASH program approach. Regular monitoring of WASH activities and training for WASH programs will also be key components of this role, along with representing RI at various cluster and coordination meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior WASH Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: collecting, registering, and maintaining information on project activities; assisting in the identification and formulation of proposals and projects; acting as the focal point for water station rehabilitations; planning and coordinating Emergency Water Trucking (EWT); monitoring WASH activities and WASH Monitors; conducting training sessions for WASH programs; representing RI WASH at cluster and coordination meetings; performing regular monitoring of project sites; entering data from monitoring activities; managing administrative tasks related to project activities; providing technical assistance for project implementation; preparing status and progress reports; facilitating partnerships with internal and external counterparts; translating WASH documents; conducting site visits for assessments; preparing Bills of Quantities (BoQ) for rehabilitation and construction works; and participating in the selection process for indirect staff.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses in a WASH or engineering-related field. A minimum of 2 years of experience in the WASH sector, particularly within NGOs, is required. Previous experience in the NGO sector is considered an asset. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, fluency in both English and Arabic (with Turkish as an asset), strong time management skills, resourcefulness, attention to detail, and analytical skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, stressful environment is essential, along with flexibility to perform other duties and work irregular hours. Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes completion of secondary education, ideally supplemented by technical or university courses in a relevant field such as WASH or engineering. Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the WASH sector, particularly with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Previous experience in the NGO sector will be considered an asset, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational and logistical aspects of humanitarian work.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is essential for collaboration and reporting. Proficiency in Turkish is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the officer's ability to engage with diverse communities.
