Job Overview: The position of VolunteerResearch Assistant involves supporting the Statistics and Data Analysis area within the Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean of UN Women. The role is crucial for the design and implementation of gender mainstreaming in statistical operations at the regional level. Volunteers will assist in research, document review, and the systematization of information, contributing to the development of analyses, technical documents, and knowledge products related to gender equality and women's empowerment in Latin America and the Caribbean. This assignment offers volunteers the opportunity to learn about UN Women's work in the region, particularly regarding the production and analysis of gender statistics, regional priorities for gender equality, and research processes developed under initiatives like Women Count. Additionally, volunteers will enhance their skills in applied research, information analysis, and the creation of evidence-based technical products.
Duties and Responsibilities: The volunteers will provide support in research assistance for studies conducted by the Statistics and Data Analysis area of UN Women's Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean. Each volunteer will undertake the following activities:
Prepare a total of 6 reports, one every two weeks, summarizing the work done, which includes: a. Document review of reports from UN System agencies and academic literature in the field of gender equality. b. Writing paragraphs that synthesize the document review. c. Reviewing and providing comments on research conducted by UN Women. d. Searching for information in databases of UN System agencies, official statistics from countries in the region, or other sources designated by the team, and managing databases if necessary. e. Creating graphs based on official information. f. Participating in coordination meetings and providing technical feedback with the UN Women team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize information from various sources. Familiarity with gender issues and statistical analysis is essential. Volunteers should be proactive, able to work independently, and demonstrate effective communication skills. A commitment to the mission of UN Women and an understanding of gender equality issues are crucial for this role.
Educational Background: A background in social sciences, gender studies, statistics, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant discipline, demonstrating a solid understanding of gender issues and statistical methodologies.
