Job Overview: The Protection Coordinator - NWS is a vital member of Relief International’s Syria team, stationed in Northwest Syria and reporting to the Project Manager. This role involves managing the Protection field team and providing technical oversight for all protection activities, which encompass GBV case management, psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support (PSS), and Child Protection (CP) services. These services are delivered through Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS), protection units (PUs), health facilities, and community outreach initiatives. The Coordinator is responsible for organizing and supervising fieldwork, ensuring quality implementation of activities, providing technical supervision and capacity-building for field staff, and contributing to coordination and reporting for both internal and donor purposes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Coordinator will oversee the implementation of protection activities, ensuring compliance with international standards and internal guidelines. Responsibilities include developing relevant tools and SOPs, providing technical guidance to Protection staff, monitoring project implementation, managing high-risk cases, and utilizing inter-agency tools to ensure quality service delivery. The Coordinator will also support donor visits, conduct performance evaluations for Protection Officers, and ensure safeguarding principles are integrated into all activities. Additionally, the role involves managing budgets, coordinating with supply chain and HR departments, and contributing to proposal development and reporting.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work, social sciences, gender/women studies, or a related field, or equivalent field experience. A minimum of 3 years of experience in protection programming, particularly in gender-based violence, child protection, and PSS programs, is required. Supervisory experience is essential, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and analytical abilities, knowledge of protection principles, and a proven track record of producing high-quality reports and technical materials. Fluency in Arabic and proficiency in spoken and written English are mandatory.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as social work, social sciences, or gender studies. Alternatively, candidates may qualify through equivalent field experience that demonstrates their capability in protection programming and related areas.
Experience: The role requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in protection programming, specifically dealing with gender-based violence, child protection, and psychosocial support in conflict-affected populations. Experience in staff supervision is also necessary, along with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in challenging environments.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, and candidates must also possess excellent spoken and written English skills. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset.
