Job Overview:
The Technical Lead (Research Reactor Capacity Building) plays a crucial role in managing project activities aimed at assisting IAEA Member States in the planning and construction of new research reactors (RRs). This position involves assessing and developing the necessary national infrastructure to support these projects. The Technical Lead is responsible for promoting and facilitating access to research reactors for nuclear capacity building, ensuring that Member States can effectively utilize these facilities. The role requires a substantive expert who can manage complex projects and foster relationships with other agencies, ensuring that all project activities are executed efficiently and in compliance with quality management standards. The Technical Lead will also coordinate the development of technical reports and best practice documents related to research reactors, contributing to the overall mission of the IAEA in enhancing nuclear safety and capacity building.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Lead will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: arranging and conducting consultants' meetings, technical meetings, conferences, symposia, workshops, and other scientific meetings focused on the planning and construction of new research reactors. They will organize peer review missions to assess the development of nuclear infrastructure for research reactor projects in Member States. The Technical Lead will prepare technical documents and reports related to the planning and construction of new research reactors, providing technical assistance to Member States through relevant IAEA Technical Cooperation projects. Additionally, they will liaise with Permanent Missions, organizations in Member States, and NGOs to discuss planning, funding, and implementation of operational projects. Collaboration with other divisions, international organizations, and Member States will also be a key responsibility, ensuring that mutual interests are addressed effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or a related technical field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in the same fields with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. The position requires at least 10 years of working experience in the relevant subject area, with a minimum of 2 years at the international level, particularly in new research reactor projects and the assessment and development of supporting infrastructure. Experience in areas such as research reactor utilization, strategic planning, operation and maintenance, modernization and refurbishment, and fuel technology is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or another nuclear-related technical degree. A Bachelor's Degree in the same fields may be acceptable if accompanied by two years of additional relevant experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of nuclear engineering and the specific challenges associated with research reactors.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a substantial level of experience, specifically at least 10 years in the nuclear field, with a focus on research reactors. This experience should include at least 2 years of work at the international level, which is crucial for understanding the global context of nuclear capacity building and the operational challenges faced by Member States. Familiarity with the intricacies of planning and building new research reactors, as well as the development of the necessary infrastructure, is essential for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package that includes a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $103,165, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Additionally, a variable post adjustment currently amounts to US $55,915, along with dependency benefits, rental subsidies, education grants, and relocation and repatriation expenses. Employees are entitled to six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, a pension plan, and health insurance.
