Job Overview: The (Senior) Investment Officer – Bond Specialist position at IFC is designed for an experienced professional with a strong background in debt capital markets and structured finance. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide structuring and execution advice for IFC's investments in various types of bonds, including plain vanilla and thematic bonds such as climate, social, and impact bonds. The Bond Specialist will play a crucial role in developing and growing IFC's bond investment business in emerging markets, working closely with various industry groups and operational departments. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying investment opportunities, managing relationships with arrangers, and contributing to the overall strategy of IFC's Bond investment program. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor junior staff and provide training to enhance the knowledge and expertise of the investment teams across sectors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the (Senior) Investment Officer – Bond Specialist include:
Contributing to the development of IFC's Bond and Structured Products investment program to achieve its objectives and ambitious plans for investment growth and development impact.
Developing a consistent Bond investment approach across all IFC industry groups and regions.
Building a strong pipeline of quality investment opportunities by anticipating market trends and leveraging sector and country knowledge.
Managing relationships with arrangers in multiple jurisdictions and connecting them with relevant regional investment teams for collaboration opportunities.
Expanding Bond and Structured Product offerings across sectors in FIG, MAS, and INFRA.
Advising clients on optimal capital market solutions and proposing financing solutions to sector challenges to achieve sustainable development impact.
Participating in client and investor meetings to pitch Bond and Structured Products.
Collaborating with key stakeholders to define consultancy and advisory services.
Evaluating, structuring, and negotiating new transactions, including thematic bonds and covered bonds, and making recommendations to IFC management. 1
Reviewing bond prospectus terms and advising the investment team on the adequacy of covenants and deal structures. 1
Utilizing negotiation skills to develop solutions and overcome challenges in transactions. 1
Collaborating with IFC regional teams and various departments to provide project support and product knowledge. 1
Supporting portfolio teams in monitoring bond portfolios and developing exit strategies. 1
Providing training and guidance to investment teams on Bonds and Structured Products. 1
Mentoring junior staff and assisting in other projects as needed.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the (Senior) Investment Officer – Bond Specialist position include:
A Master's degree in finance, economics, or a related field; a CFA designation is a plus.
A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in debt capital markets, with a deep understanding of industry trends.
A solid track record in debt capital markets transactions across diverse sectors in emerging markets.
Proven ability to interact independently with senior management of potential clients and financial partners.
Strong negotiation skills with experience in both plain vanilla and complex transactions.
Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the bond deal life cycle, including book building, documentation, pricing, and execution.
Background in liability management, corporate finance, or credit analysis, with the ability to analyze clients' businesses and financials.
Excellent business judgment and strong analytical skills to identify issues and propose practical solutions.
Ability to work collaboratively with teams within IFC and other development finance institutions.
Educational Background: Candidates for the (Senior) Investment Officer – Bond Specialist position are expected to have a Master's degree in finance, economics, or a related field.
