Job Overview:
The Corporate Accounting Manager position at Mercy Corps is pivotal in optimizing the accounting and finance functions at the organization's European headquarters. This role encompasses overseeing daily operations of the accounting team, managing the monthly closing process for consolidated accounts, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and donor requirements specific to Mercy Corps in the Netherlands. The manager will play a crucial role in maintaining financial integrity and transparency, supporting the preparation of financial statements, and collaborating with various departments to enhance financial reporting and operational efficiency. The position requires a proactive approach to process improvement and a commitment to maintaining robust financial controls and governance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Corporate Accounting Manager will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: managing day-to-day accounting transactions such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, and Payroll; focusing on process improvement and internal controls; managing data transfers between various departments; overseeing the monthly close process and maintaining close calendars; collaborating on cross-functional projects; reviewing monthly account reconciliations; leading external financial and regulatory audits; preparing annual financial reports and monthly management accounts; responding to audit queries; ensuring compliance with local tax regulations; providing accounting support to stakeholders; and supporting treasury functions as needed. The manager will also be responsible for documenting accounting processes and ensuring they are current and effective.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Corporate Accounting Manager position must possess a BA/BS in accounting or a related field, or equivalent work experience. An active ACCA license or equivalent is preferred. A minimum of 5-7 years of financial management experience is required, with a strong background in payroll accounting, accounts payable, budgeting, and financial reporting. Knowledge of FRS 102, NL, IFRS, and not-for-profit GAAP is essential, along with familiarity with the Dutch operational environment and charity regulatory requirements. Candidates should demonstrate analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a proven track record in process improvement. Excellent communication, organizational, and prioritization skills are also necessary, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a BA/BS in accounting or a related field. Candidates with equivalent work experience may also be considered. An active ACCA license or equivalent certification is preferred, indicating a professional level of expertise in accounting practices and principles.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 5-7 years of relevant financial management experience. This experience should encompass various aspects of accounting, including payroll accounting, accounts payable, budgeting, and financial reporting. Familiarity with the Dutch financial regulatory environment and experience with donor compliance requirements, particularly with ECHO, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Dutch is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and team members. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
