Job Overview: The Data Science Manager will lead the Product Analytics team, reporting to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Senior Director of Research and Decision Science. This role involves managing a team of data scientists who provide insights that guide strategies and tactics aligned with the Foundation's vision. The manager will ensure that the team delivers accurate quantitative data and insights to inform product decisions and assess the impact of new features. The position requires collaboration with product managers, designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to produce actionable data and insights. The manager will also be responsible for creating shared data processes and procedures to ensure timely delivery and data accuracy. The role demands a commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture within the team, mentoring team members, and continuously improving data practices and reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure timely delivery of accurate quantitative data and insights to inform strategy and guide product decisions.
Manage a team of approximately seven data scientists, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
Mentor team members in critical thinking, data-informed storytelling, and technical skills.
Partner with Experiment Platform and Data Engineering teams to build and maintain accessible data products.
Collaborate with product teams and the Research & Decision Science group to promote data-informed product development.
Continuously develop and improve experimentation and measurement best practices, product health metrics, visualizations, and reports for better accessibility and interpretation.
Required Qualifications:
Deep experience with experimental design and statistics applied to internet-scale audience or user experience data.
Proven experience collaborating with product development teams in a fast-paced environment.
Prior experience in a people management role.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity.
Familiarity with large-scale data processing and storage tools such as Hadoop, Hive, Presto, and Spark.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field is typically required. Advanced degrees may be preferred, especially for roles involving complex data analysis and management.
Experience: Candidates should have substantial experience in data science, particularly in managing teams and working with product development teams. Experience in a nonprofit or open-source environment is a plus, as is familiarity with ethical data management practices.
