Job Overview:
The Legal Data Analyst position is primarily focused on updating and maintaining historical case data from 2009 to 2019 for the Appeals Tribunal caseload dashboard. The role involves working closely with the UNAT Registrar and the Principal Registrar to ensure that the data is accurate, comprehensive, and presented effectively. The analyst will be responsible for reviewing historical appeals data within the court case management system, performing data audits, and identifying any discrepancies such as duplicates or inconsistencies. The position also requires the manipulation and translation of data for input into PowerBI, which is used for visualizing the Appeals Tribunal's caseload. This role is essential for enhancing the quality of data available for decision-making and reporting purposes within the tribunal.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Legal Data Analyst will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Reviewing historical appeals data in the court case management system to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Performing data audits to identify and rectify issues such as lack of detail, duplicates, and inconsistencies in case entries.
  • Assisting in the manipulation and translation of data for integration into PowerBI for the Appeals Tribunal caseload dashboard.
  • Collaborating with the UNAT Registrar and Principal Registrar to ensure data integrity and compliance with tribunal standards.
  • Providing insights and recommendations based on data analysis to improve case management processes.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of best practices in data analytics and visualization to enhance the tribunal's reporting capabilities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in a field related to database management or data analytics. Additionally, at least one year of relevant experience in data analysis or a similar role is required. Proficiency in advanced Excel is mandatory, as is familiarity with case management software, although no specific brand is required. Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI or similar products is highly desirable. Candidates should also have experience in administrative or civil litigation support, and familiarity with programming languages like Python or R for data cleansing, text analysis, and automation is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as data analytics, database management, information technology, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform the duties of the Legal Data Analyst effectively.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least one year of professional experience in data analysis or a related field. This experience should ideally include working with data management systems, performing data audits, and utilizing data visualization tools. Familiarity with administrative or civil litigation processes is also beneficial, as it provides context for the data being analyzed and reported.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, fluency in another official United Nations language, such as French, is desirable and would be considered an asset for the role.
