Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UNICEF, established in 1946, is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to improving the lives of children and women worldwide. With a presence in over 192 countries, UNICEF focuses on various critical areas including health, education, water and sanitation, child protection, HIV and AIDS, nutrition, policy, and social protection. In Cameroon, UNICEF has been operational since 1975, working to enhance the welfare of children and women through advocacy, policy formulation, and strengthening local capacities. The organization aims to address the needs of the most vulnerable populations, particularly adolescent girls, by implementing programs that protect against violence and exploitation, and promote child rights.

Job Overview:
The Demand Generation UNV position at UNICEF Cameroon is designed to support the implementation of the Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) strategy, which is crucial for enhancing community engagement and participation in programs aimed at improving child welfare. The role involves learning and assisting in the design and management of SBC strategies that target both the general public and service providers. The UNV will contribute to the development of communication materials, facilitate training for partners, and support monitoring and evaluation of SBC activities. This position is integral to UNICEF's mission of promoting child rights and ensuring that children, especially those in vulnerable situations, receive the necessary support and services for their development and protection.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks including: 1) Learning and supporting the design of SBC strategies for demand generation, which includes behavioral change at the household level and social mobilization of civil society organizations. 2) Supporting the production of program communication materials by collaborating with partners to conduct formative research and develop culturally relevant content. 3) Assisting in learning and capacity building by developing training materials and activities to enhance participatory communication and behavior change among staff and partners. 4) Coordinating with government and other partners to develop social development communication strategies. 5) Monitoring and evaluating SBC activities through site visits and dissemination of research findings. 6) Implementing innovative practices and approaches using the latest technologies across various media platforms. 7) Engaging in additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor, including promoting volunteerism and community engagement.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a strong understanding of social and behavioral sciences, with a focus on community engagement and communication strategies. They should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government entities and civil society organizations. Technical skills in program design, monitoring, and evaluation are essential, along with proficiency in developing communication materials. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to different cultural contexts are also required.

Educational Background:
A degree in social sciences, communication, public health, or a related field is required. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in social and behavior change communication will be given preference. Knowledge of UNICEF's mission and programs, as well as familiarity with child protection issues, is advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have prior experience in community engagement, social mobilization, or behavior change communication. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts, is highly desirable. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes, as well as the ability to work in challenging environments, will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory, as both languages are essential for effective communication within the organization and with local communities. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Cameroon would be an asset, enhancing the ability to engage with diverse populations.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Yaoundé and is primarily office-based, with some potential for remote work in accordance with organizational policies. The role may require occasional travel to other regions, which could involve basic living conditions. The contract duration is subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance, with a monthly volunteer subsistence allowance provided to cover basic needs. Additional benefits include medical insurance, travel allowances, and a resettlement allowance after satisfactory service. Candidates should be aware of the potential for travel restrictions due to COVID-19 and discuss any concerns during the interview process.
