Job Overview:
The AI Learning Specialist will be instrumental in enhancing the IRC's capacity to effectively and responsibly utilize AI tools across its global operations. This role involves close collaboration with the Learning & Development Team and AI Task Forces to design, develop, and deliver comprehensive learning solutions that empower staff to integrate AI into their daily work confidently and ethically. The specialist will take a holistic approach to learning, working with various teams to understand existing processes, identify performance gaps, and create contextually appropriate solutions. The outputs of this role will include workflow-embedded learning experiences, facilitated live sessions, and multilingual resources in various formats such as e-learning, microlearning, job aids, and guides, catering to technical staff, program teams, and leadership across both field and office locations. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of generative AI capabilities, strong instructional design expertise, and a genuine commitment to capacity building in international development settings. They should be comfortable navigating rapidly evolving technology environments, critically evaluating AI tools for organizational and ethical fit, and translating complex AI concepts into practical, accessible learning experiences for diverse, globally distributed audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Learning Program Design & Development: Establish a foundational baseline by designing a high-impact foundational AI literacy experience accessible to all staff. Identify opportunities to embed generative AI into learning, enabling staff to practice skills and explore role-specific use cases. Develop scenario-based learning activities that reflect real humanitarian work contexts and challenges. Integrate principles of responsible AI use, data protection, and ethical considerations into all learning materials. Source, curate, and create engaging learning experiences in multiple formats, including facilitated live coaching, self-paced eLearning courses, microlearning modules, video tutorials, job aids, quick reference guides, and interactive workshops.
  • Upskilling Delivery & Facilitation: Facilitate live virtual hands-on training sessions with generative AI tools for real-time demonstration and feedback. Provide coaching and support to staff at various skill levels, from AI beginners to advanced users. Develop and deliver specialized training tailored to specific use cases and staff profiles.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Needs Assessment: Partner closely with the AI Staff and Culture Task Force and other AI working groups to align learning initiatives with the organizational AI strategy. Gather feedback from learners and conduct regular needs assessments to identify learning gaps and establish priorities. Collaborate with IT, Data, and other technical teams to stay current on AI tool implementations and integrate learning touchpoints into technology platforms.
  • Learning Analytics & Continuous Improvement: Track learning metrics such as participation rates, completion rates, skill assessments, and learner satisfaction. Analyze learning data to identify trends, measure impact, and demonstrate the ROI of AI capacity-building efforts. Improve learning programs based on data insights and user feedback, documenting best practices and lessons learned for organizational knowledge management.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience in learning and development, instructional design, or training delivery.
  • Advanced knowledge and use of generative AI applications (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot) including prompt engineering, AI-assisted content creation, AI workflow integration, and understanding AI capabilities and limitations.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing upskilling programs across various mediums, including eLearning courses and digital learning content.
  • Experience working in international development, humanitarian, or nonprofit sectors is strongly preferred.
  • Experience creating multilingual or cross-cultural learning programs is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360).
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and learning analytics platforms.
  • Strong understanding of change management principles and experience implementing/supporting change.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and collaboration tools. 1
  • Experienced in innovative approaches to learning design that engage and motivate adult learners.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, human resources, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant field is preferred, particularly in areas related to adult education, instructional technology, or organizational development.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience in learning and development, instructional design, or training delivery. Experience in international development or humanitarian sectors is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the unique challenges and contexts of these environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required. Professional proficiency in additional languages such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is preferred, as it will enhance the ability to create multilingual learning resources and engage with diverse audiences.

Additional Notes:
This position is full-time and may involve remote work options. The compensation for this role is competitive, with a U.S. pay rate ranging from $80,000 to $90,000 USD and a UK pay rate between £50,000 and £60,000 GBP. Compensation ranges are based on various factors, including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers will be calibrated based on work location, individual candidate experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
