Job Overview: The position of Consultant is primarily focused on providing technical assistance in the recognition process of the Agrobiodiversity Zone (ZABD) Lamay. This role is crucial in the context of UNESCO's commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which emphasizes the importance of scientific knowledge in addressing global economic, social, and environmental challenges. The consultant will work closely with local communities to ensure that the technical documentation required for the recognition of the ZABD is properly prepared and submitted. This includes addressing observations made by the National Agrarian Innovation Institute (INIA) and ensuring that the information is organized, integrated, and validated according to current legal frameworks. The consultant will also facilitate community engagement and understanding of the recognition process, ensuring that local knowledge and practices are respected and incorporated into the project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Providing technical support to local communities throughout the recognition process of the ZABD Lamay, ensuring compliance with the requirements set forth in the Supreme Decree N° 020-2016-MINAGRI.
Organizing and facilitating meetings with the communities to discuss the technical documentation, observations received, and proposed actions for addressing these observations.
Reviewing the technical documentation comprehensively and systematizing the observations made by INIA's Legal Advisory Office.
Supporting the evaluation process of the technical documentation by coordinating with INIA and ensuring that all observations are addressed in a timely manner.
Assisting communities in consolidating the technical documentation into a single, structured version.
Preparing territorial information for the technical documentation, including maps and plans, and conducting necessary fieldwork in collaboration with the communities.
Coordinating and supporting community meetings to facilitate agreement on addressing observations related to the technical documentation.
Performing other related duties as assigned by the program coordinator or sector coordinator.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a professional background in agronomy, biology, environmental sciences, or related fields. A postgraduate degree in ecology, biodiversity, agrobiodiversity, genetic resources, or related disciplines is highly desirable. Additional training or complementary education in biodiversity, genetic resources, territorial management, or conservation is also preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the legal frameworks applicable to Agrobiodiversity Zones and possess skills in territorial analysis and the use of geographic information systems (GIS).
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a professional degree in agronomy, biology, environmental sciences, or related fields. A postgraduate degree in relevant areas such as ecology, biodiversity, or agrobiodiversity is preferred. Candidates should also have received training in biodiversity management, conservation, or related topics, which would enhance their suitability for the role.
Experience: A minimum of eight years of professional experience in activities related to biodiversity, genetic resources, or agrobiodiversity management is required. Candidates should have experience in both public and private sectors, particularly in technical or management roles related to biodiversity. Experience in preparing technical or methodological documents related to biodiversity or agrobiodiversity is essential. Familiarity with Agrobiodiversity Zones and territorial management, as well as experience working with local communities or organizations, is highly valued.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in this role. Basic proficiency in English is desirable but not required. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively with local communities and stakeholders in Spanish.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is for a duration of 85 days, subject to budget availability and performance evaluation. There are no expectations for contract renewal or conversion to another type of contract, and the position does not include medical coverage.
