Job Overview:
The Data Engineer position is a critical role within the IAEA's Department of Safeguards, which is responsible for the global oversight of nuclear materials and activities. The Data Engineer will report directly to the Team Leader and will be tasked with designing, delivering, and supporting robust data solutions that align with the strategic and operational goals of the Department. This role involves not only the creation and maintenance of data processing pipelines but also the evolution of data architecture and management of on-premise data platforms. The Data Engineer will work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including business users, data scientists, and analysts, to implement data products and services that leverage modern data architectures. The position requires a proactive approach to optimizing data flows and ensuring the integrity and security of data management processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Engineer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: collaborating with business users and technical teams to design and implement data products; building and maintaining data pipelines that integrate large volumes of data from multiple sources; monitoring and optimizing the on-premise data architecture; conducting performance tuning of database queries; staying updated on emerging data management technologies; contributing to IT project teams and process improvement initiatives; and advising stakeholders on data-related activities. The role demands a strong focus on delivering high-quality data solutions that meet the operational needs of the Department of Safeguards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience is required, particularly in working with complex data integration platforms that support data analysis and services. Candidates should have extensive expertise in data engineering, data architecture, and database development, with proficiency in technologies such as SQL Server, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch. Strong analytical skills and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer engineering, or information technology. This foundational knowledge is crucial for understanding the complexities of data management and engineering within the context of the IAEA's mission.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least five years of professional experience in data engineering and related fields. This experience should include working with complex data integration platforms and tools, as well as managing on-premise data architectures. Familiarity with data processing technologies such as Spark, Trino, and Airflow is highly desirable, as is experience in developing ETL processes and data pipelines.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.

The IAEA offers a competitive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at approximately US $71,335, along with a variable post adjustment and various benefits such as annual leave, health insurance, and a pension plan.
