Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing the implementation of TrainForTrade's activities, which focus on improving port management and trade statistics. This position involves coordinating training activities at the national level, conducting research and analysis on international trade and ports, and contributing to the drafting of significant publications such as the 'Review of Maritime Transport' and the yearly Port Performance Scorecard. The consultant will also be responsible for engaging with stakeholders and partners to promote effective communication and collaboration within the port management networks. This role requires a proactive approach to liaising with local instructors and organizing training agendas, as well as participating in jury assessments for final dissertations in various countries. The consultant will also be tasked with drafting reports and producing content that adheres to UN gender-inclusive language guidelines, thereby ensuring that communication is effective and inclusive.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties and responsibilities include:
  • Liaising with local instructors and focal points of the English and French Port Management networks to organize training agendas and coordinate national-level training activities.
  • Undertaking field missions as required to support training initiatives.
  • Assisting in the organization and serving as a jury member for final dissertations in Mauritania and other countries within the English and French networks.
  • Conducting research and analysis of relevant data on international trade and ports to contribute to the co-drafting of UNCTAD's flagship publication 'Review of Maritime Transport' and TrainForTrade’s yearly Port Performance Scorecard, including editing chapters.
  • Preparing letters, emails, and invitations to experts and stakeholders, and following up on participant registrations.
  • Drafting final reports of activities and producing articles and other content for UNCTAD’s and TrainForTrade’s communication, ensuring adherence to gender-inclusive language guidelines and promoting stakeholder engagement.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree in economics, marketing, public policy, or a related field. Additionally, candidates must have at least 20 months of work experience in research activities related to economic and statistics policies, trade-related matters, and/or project management. Experience with economic and policy research, familiarity with statistics procedures, and the ability to liaise with national and international stakeholders within an international organization are essential. While experience in drafting reports and official communications is desirable, familiarity with TrainForTrade methodologies and port-related matters will be considered advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree, such as a Master's degree, in fields related to economics, marketing, public policy, or similar disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of trade and economic policies, which are central to the responsibilities of the consultant role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 20 months of relevant work experience. This experience should be focused on research activities related to economic and statistics policies, trade-related matters, and project management. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of economic and policy research, as well as experience in liaising with stakeholders at both national and international levels within an international organization. Experience in drafting reports and official communications is also beneficial, while familiarity with TrainForTrade methodologies and port-related issues will be considered a plus.

Languages:
