The UAE Liaison Office for the GCC was inaugurated in 2016 and operates in three main areas: advocacy for UN Women’s global mandate, resource mobilization for UN Women programs, and coordination of partnerships to advance UN Women’s strategic priorities in the GCC region. The office serves as a liaison between UN Women and various stakeholders in the GCC, including the private sector, government, academia, and non-profits.

Job Overview:
The Driver position at UN Women is crucial for providing reliable and safe transportation services to the Head of the Liaison Office and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors. The role demands a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, along with a strong understanding of protocol and security issues. The Driver is expected to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. Reporting to the Head of the Liaison Office and under the supervision of the Operations Associate, the Driver may also be tasked with providing driving services to operations and program personnel, consultants, experts, and UN staff on mission. Additionally, the Driver will assist with basic administrative and clerical support for the UN Women GCC Liaison Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide reliable and secure driving services, including transporting authorized personnel, delivering and collecting mail and documents, and meeting official personnel at the airport while handling visa and customs formalities as needed.
  • Ensure that all passengers wear seatbelts and take immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of accidents.
  • Maintain daily vehicle logs, monitor gas consumption, and contribute to vehicle maintenance plans.
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle is kept clean and in good working condition, making minor repairs and arranging for major repairs as necessary.
  • Maintain all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, including insurance, vehicle logs, and first aid kits.
  • Provide general administrative and logistic support, assisting with filing, photocopying, and distribution of publications and payments.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires completion of secondary education and a valid driver’s license. Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience as a driver with a safe driving record, preferably in an international organization, embassy, or UN system. Excellent driving skills, knowledge of local driving rules and regulations, and defensive driving skills are essential. Skills in minor vehicle repairs and punctuality are also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education. A valid driver’s license is mandatory for this position.

Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a driver is required, with a proven safe driving record. Experience working in an international organization, embassy, or within the UN system is preferred, indicating familiarity with the protocols and expectations of such environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. A working knowledge of Arabic is preferred, and knowledge of another official UN language (such as French, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse UN environment.
