Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the lead UN agency focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights, aiming to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. Established in 1969, UNFPA operates in over 150 countries and has a mission to deliver transformative results in areas such as family planning, maternal health, and gender equality. The organization is committed to upholding human rights and ethical standards, seeking staff who embody these values and can deliver high-impact results in their work.
Job Overview: UNFPA is looking for three qualified interns to support its Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and HIV, Gender and Adolescent and Youth programs, as well as the Operations portfolios. The interns will play a crucial role in assisting with program planning, coordination, and improving administrative efficiencies within the respective units. The role requires candidates who can inspire and deliver high-impact results, manage resources effectively, and commit to excellence in program outcomes. Interns will be involved in various activities, including planning inter-agency forums, compiling documentation for program summaries, and supporting the implementation of activities related to sexual and reproductive health rights and HIV.
Duties and Responsibilities: The interns will have specific responsibilities based on their assigned portfolios. For the Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and HIV, Gender and Adolescent and Youth interns, duties include providing support in planning and coordinating inter-agency forums, assisting with the preparation of background documentation for program summaries and communication materials, and monitoring the implementation of activities. They will also support the integration of content for internal communications and assist with logistics for capacity-building workshops. The Operations and Administrationintern will focus on VAT management, monitoring expenditures, preparing annual work plans, and liaising with the finance team for payments. This role requires attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet specific educational and eligibility requirements to qualify for the internship. They should be enrolled in a first university degree program or a postgraduate degree program, or have recently graduated with a relevant degree. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in development, proficiency in English, and the ability to adapt to diverse environments. Strong analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to work harmoniously with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, are essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in a bachelor's degree program or a postgraduate degree program. Candidates who have recently graduated with a relevant degree are also eligible, provided they start the internship within one year of graduation. Alternatively, candidates enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee program may undertake the internship as part of their training.
Experience: While specific experience is not mandatory, some experience working with development agencies, even in a volunteer capacity, is preferred. This experience can provide valuable insights into the workings of international organizations and enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the team.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's ability to communicate and collaborate in a multicultural environment.
Additional Notes: The internship does not offer a salary or remuneration from UNFPA. Interns are expected to cover their living expenses, accommodation, and travel arrangements. However, a stipend may be provided to help cover basic daily expenses if the intern is not financially supported by an institution. Interns must also have medical insurance for the duration of the internship, as UNFPA does not provide this coverage. The organization promotes a diverse and inclusive work environment, encouraging applications from underrepresented groups and individuals with disabilities. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to support applicants with disabilities during the recruitment process.
