The Global Knowledge and Advocacy Division (GKAD) supports UN-Habitat's mission by enhancing visibility, evidence, and partnerships through research, data-driven insights, and capacity development. GKAD also organizes the World Urban Forum (WUF), a premier conference on housing and sustainable urban development, which serves as a platform for expert consultation on sustainable urban development matters. The upcoming thirteenth session of WUF (WUF 13) will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, in May 2026, focusing on the theme of 'Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities.'

Job Overview:

  • The intern will work under the guidance of the Head of Advocacy and Stakeholders Unit, focusing on data management, analysis, and advocacy duties. The role involves maintaining and updating a stakeholder database, ensuring data accuracy and integrity, and preparing datasets for reporting and stakeholder engagement activities. The intern will also assist in developing advocacy materials, planning events, and managing communications to raise awareness and mobilize support for housing and urban initiatives. This position provides an opportunity to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the implementation of the UN-Habitat Strategic Plan for 2026-2029.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities include: 1) Maintaining and updating the stakeholder database with new registrations and consultation records; 2) Applying data cleaning rules to ensure dataset accuracy and conducting regular quality checks; 3) Preparing analysis-ready datasets for reporting and stakeholder engagement; 4) Utilizing AI tools to enhance data analysis and automate processes; 5) Developing advocacy materials such as articles, blog posts, and social media content; 6) Collaborating with team members to create visually engaging content; 7) Supporting the planning and execution of advocacy events and campaigns; 8) Maintaining and updating the monitoring and reporting database of Subprogramme 4; 9) Assisting in drafting progress reports and presentations for UN-Habitat management and governing bodies.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b) Be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level); c) Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, is required. Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Preferred areas of study include Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Information Management, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, Urban Studies, or related fields.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed a relevant degree. A background in fields closely related to the internship is essential, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data management and analysis is required. Applicants should provide examples of their experience using Excel for data cleaning, organization, or analysis.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should have experience in data cleaning, consolidation, and managing large datasets. They should describe their experience handling datasets with duplicate or inconsistent entries and the approaches used to identify, clean, and consolidate data effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable but not mandatory.
