Job Overview: The Computing Engineer position within CERN's IT Platforms Group focuses on supporting the Web Hosting services for the diverse range of websites and web applications utilized by CERN's research communities. The role involves operating and evolving CERN's Web Hosting services, particularly those based on Kubernetes and OpenShift. The successful candidate will ensure the appropriate operations and support for the communities, facilitate the growth of the OpenShift-based Platform as a Service (PaaS), and integrate with CERN's identity and networking systems via Kubernetes operators. Additionally, the role includes providing guidance to website and application owners, assisting in the migration from legacy web servers to modern Kubernetes/OpenShift environments, and supporting deployment and configuration tools for platforms and applications. Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain CERN's Web Hosting services based on Kubernetes and OpenShift, ensuring high availability and performance.
Support the growth and integration of the OpenShift-based PaaS platform with CERN's identity and networking systems.
Provide technical guidance and support to website and application owners, including migration strategies for legacy systems.
Develop and maintain common tools for deployment and configuration of platforms and applications.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance service offerings and extend capabilities to public cloud resources.
Ensure adherence to Kubernetes security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security best practices and implement necessary security measures.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to web hosting services and applications.
Stay updated with the latest developments in cloud-native technologies and contribute to the continuous improvement of services.
Required Qualifications:
Initial experience in deploying applications to Kubernetes/OpenShift.
Proficiency in Linuxadministration" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">system administration.
Familiarity with Kubernetes security best practices.
Strong knowledge of cloud-native technologies, particularly Kubernetes and/or OpenShift/OKD.
CKA/CKAD/CKS certification is a plus.
Problem-solving attitude and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Knowledge of Bash scripting.
Programming skills in GoLang and/or Python are advantageous.
Familiarity with Git, CI/CD tools, and test and deployment automation is preferred. 1
Strong spoken and written English skills, with a commitment to learn French.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Applicants without a university degree are not eligible for this position. Additionally, candidates with a PhD are also not eligible. The educational qualification should be completed by the application deadline, and candidates should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation.
