Job Overview: The Driver position at the OHCHR Syria Country Office in Damascus involves a range of responsibilities centered around the safe and efficient transportation of personnel and goods. The Driver will also be responsible for maintaining the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is in good working condition, and logging all official trips and vehicle usage. Additionally, the Driver will assist with data collection and analysis, contributing to the preparation of reports and presentations. This position is crucial for facilitating the smooth operation of the OHCHR's activities in Syria, and the incumbent is expected to demonstrate professionalism, client orientation, and effective planning and organizing skills.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
Safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo, including hazardous goods.
Making regular deliveries of parcels and documents between UN offices and other institutions, such as ministries and embassies.
Conducting minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers as needed.
Facilitating immigration and customs formalities for official personnel at the airport.
Maintaining effective and tactful communication with officials and visitors.
Performing day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, as well as arranging for repairs.
Logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance activities.
Ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents.
Assisting with data collection and analysis, as well as preparing presentations and reports. 1
Updating information materials such as web pages or brochures. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, candidates should have completed driver training. A minimum of two years of experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may have the minimum experience requirement waived. Experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles, is essential.
