Job Overview:
The Library Intern position at the United Nations University Library is designed for individuals who are currently pursuing or have recently completed postgraduate studies in Library and Information Science or related fields. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in academic librarianship, where interns will engage in various library operations, support the delivery of library services, and assist in planning and organizing library activities throughout the year. The internship is structured to follow the academic calendar, with a typical duration of six months, from September to February, and is primarily on-site at the UNU headquarters in Tokyo. Interns are expected to work full-time during regular university hours, with limited remote work permitted under specific circumstances. The role is integral to enhancing the academic activities of the university and involves direct interaction with library patrons and staff, contributing to the overall mission of the UNU Library.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Library Intern will be responsible for a range of duties that include performing professional library work under the supervision of library staff, sorting and shelving library materials according to the UNU library classification, assisting in classifying and cataloguing library materials, checking in and checking out materials, answering reference questions, maintaining the library management system, assisting library patrons with technology, and performing general maintenance of the library. The intern will also be expected to undertake other tasks as assigned by library staff, providing a comprehensive experience in library operations.
