Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in conducting data analysis for the Progress of the World’s Women 2026 report, focusing on gender and climate change. This position requires advanced quantitative analysis using various datasets related to environmental, economic, labor, and financing aspects. The consultant will design and execute statistical modeling work, analyze datasets relevant to green jobs and just transitions, and prepare statistical annexes with technical notes and definitions. The role also involves translating complex data into accessible formats for non-technical audiences, crafting high-impact communications assets, and contributing substantive research and analysis for the report. The consultant will work closely with the Research and Data team to finalize assets related to the report and provide additional data support as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct data analysis for the Progress of the World’s Women 2026 report.
Perform advanced quantitative analysis using environmental, economic, labor, and financing datasets.
Design and execute statistical modeling work on gender and climate change.
Analyze and synthesize datasets relevant to green jobs, just transitions, carbon emissions accounting, climate vulnerability, environmental degradation, climate finance, and loss and damage financing.
Lead the preparation of statistical annexes, including technical notes, definitions, and methodological notes.
Translate complex data into accessible formats for non-technical audiences through effective data visualization and narrative framing.
Craft text for high-impact communications assets, including data cards, social media content, key messages, and data visualizations.
Contribute substantive inputs, research, and analysis for the Progress of the World’s Women 2026 report.
Conduct background research, including literature reviews related to gender and climate change.

Author and refine analytical inputs across report chapters, ensuring rigor and clarity in findings.

Strengthen report quality through meticulous technical review, scrutinizing data and draft chapters for inconsistencies.

Collaborate with the Research and Data team to develop and finalize report-related assets, including data cards and social media content.

Required Qualifications:
Strong analytical skills, particularly in statistical modeling and scenario analysis related to gender and climate change.
Proficiency in statistical and coding packages such as STATA, R, or Python.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including training others.
Familiarity with international methodologies for generating gender statistics.
Data visualization skills for creating factsheets and communication materials.
Ability to implement activities in a timely and efficient manner.
Strong teamworking skills and an affinity with UN Women’s mandate of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in statistics, gender and statistics, economics, or other social science fields, including environmental economics, is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of work experience in gender statistics at the national and/or international level, with a focus on climate change. This includes professional or academic experience analyzing household-based survey data and other forms of microdata. Experience in drafting statistics-based research and reports, providing capacity-building support in gender statistics, and preparing data visualization products is essential. Familiarity with non-conventional data sources, such as geospatial information or big data, is an asset, as is experience supporting national policymakers on data use for evidence-based decision-making.
Languages: Fluency in English is required. A working knowledge of another UN official language is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is home-based, allowing for flexibility in work location. The position may involve collaboration with various stakeholders and requires adherence to UN Women’s policies and procedures, including a zero-tolerance policy on misconduct.
