The organization is guided by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and core human rights treaties, particularly the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. Established to advance children's rights, UNICEF's five-year country programme for 2024-2028 aims to foster the growth and potential of all children and young people, especially the most vulnerable. The organization employs approximately 110 staff members, including 20 international and 90 national employees, and is headquartered in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Job Overview:
The UN Associate Volunteer for Gender Equality and Inclusive Social Development will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and monitoring of UNICEF Cambodia’s gender and disability inclusion agenda across various sectors, including Education, WASH, Child Protection, and Social Protection. This position is designed to contribute to the mainstreaming of child rights-based, gender-responsive, and disability-inclusive approaches. The Volunteer will also promote access to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for youth with disabilities and strengthen youth participation in governance processes, particularly for adolescent girls and youth with disabilities. The role emphasizes the importance of cross-sectoral coordination, policy analysis, and program reviews to advance strategies that uphold children's rights and promote inclusive social development within the Cambodia Country Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Volunteer will undertake several key tasks, including:

  • Supporting the Royal Government of Cambodia in enabling persons with disabilities to access Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and transition into decent employment opportunities.
  • Enhancing youth participation in governance by enabling commune youth representatives, especially those with disabilities and young women, to engage in public budgeting processes and advocate for inclusive social services.
  • Contributing to policy and programmatic reviews to strengthen the Cambodia Country Office’s efforts in gender equality and disability inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in social sciences, international development, gender studies, or a related field. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in gender equality, disability rights, or child rights will be given preference.

Experience:
The position requires some level of experience in working with marginalized communities, particularly in the areas of gender equality and disability inclusion. Previous volunteer or internship experience with NGOs, UN agencies, or similar organizations will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a capacity for teamwork, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNICEF. Knowledge of Khmer or other local languages is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
