Job Overview: The Communication and Advocacy Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of UNFPA's Country Programme in Myanmar. This position involves leading the planning, facilitation, and monitoring of strategic communication and advocacy initiatives that align with UNFPA’s mission and national policies. The analyst will report directly to the UNFPA Representative in Myanmar and will be responsible for ensuring that UNFPA’s priorities are effectively communicated and strategically positioned within the context of the country’s development landscape. The role requires a deep understanding of the political, social, and economic trends affecting the country, as well as the ability to analyze and monitor the impact of advocacy efforts. The analyst will also develop integrated communication components to enhance the visibility of UNFPA’s work in areas such as sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and population dynamics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and Analysis: Promote awareness about UNFPA's centrality to the ICPD agenda in humanitarian, development, and nexus interventions through strategic information dissemination. Maintain networks and knowledge assets for visibility initiatives, and make recommendations for advocacy activities. Collect, analyze, and disseminate information on sexual reproductive health and rights, adolescents and youth, SDGs, gender equality, GBV, and humanitarian assistance.
Developing Promotional Projects and Organizational Messages: Identify and develop activities to enhance UNFPA’s visibility. Oversee the development of advocacy materials such as factsheets and presentations. Create messages for UNFPA staff to use with partners and review documents for consistency in communications. Cultivate networks of partners to promote UNFPA’s communication strategies and support advocacy activities conducted by stakeholders.
Formulating Strategies for Communications and Media: Formulate strategies for UNFPA branding and corporate image activities. Develop strategies for improved media coverage and maintain relationships with media networks. Disseminate information to the media and organize press conferences. Monitor and analyze the impact of communication activities and build consensus on the image to be projected.
Raise Awareness about UNFPA CO Activities: Share information with regional offices and HQ, write stories for internal newsletters, and organize advocacy campaigns. Monitor public opinion and press coverage, develop communication materials, and update the UNFPA Myanmar website and social media. Support the Representative in interagency initiatives and contribute to the planning of capacity-building activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Political Science, Media Studies, Communication, Public Relations, Population, Demography, or related social science fields. A minimum of 2 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in communication is required, along with previous experience in building effective partnerships with media, NGOs, and international organizations. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential, as well as a good understanding of the UN system and current development issues in Myanmar. Candidates should also have strong computer and information systems skills.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in fields such as Political Science, Media Studies, Communication, Public Relations, Population, Demography, or other related social sciences is required for this position. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of communication and advocacy within the context of UNFPA's mission and the socio-political landscape of Myanmar.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of communication. Candidates should have experience in building effective partnerships with various stakeholders, including media, NGOs, and international organizations. Previous experience as a spokesperson for an international organization is considered an added advantage, as it demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate and advocate for UNFPA's mission and objectives.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written English and Myanmar is essential for this position. Candidates must be able to write clearly and concisely in both languages. Knowledge of local languages in one of UNFPA's target states and regions is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities.
