Job Overview: The position of Design Consultant is integral to the WHO Health Emergencies Programme (WHE), which focuses on preparing for and managing health emergencies that threaten global healthsecurity" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The consultant will be responsible for transforming existing technical materials into a coherent, visually engaging, and user-friendly package that can be adapted and implemented by Member States. This role involves collaborating with two online volunteers to design and layout various key products, including a Community Health Workforce Competency Guide, an Instruction Manual, a Situational Assessment Tool, and a CHW Training Package. The consultant will ensure that all materials adhere to WHO branding guidelines and are suitable for both digital and print use, enhancing clarity and engagement for practical learning.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Design Consultant will undertake several key activities, including:
Developing a consistent visual identity and design framework across all materials, ensuring alignment with WHO branding guidelines.
Designing and formatting the Community Health Workforce Competency Guide (16 pages), Situational Assessment Tool (15 pages), and Instruction Manual (48 pages) into clear, structured, and user-friendly documents.
Editing and updating the design of the CHW Training Package, which consists of 10 PowerPoint modules, to enhance clarity and engagement.
Creating simple, clear illustrations and visual assets tailored to the South-East Asia context to support understanding of key concepts.
Developing a set of character illustrations or simple personas for consistent use across training materials, ideally including 11 characters representing various roles and scenarios.
Creating a reusable library of visual assets for consistent application across materials and for adaptation to different country settings.
Ensuring all materials are designed as adaptable templates to facilitate translation and contextualization.
Applying strong visual hierarchy and layout techniques to improve readability and navigation across all materials.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Design Consultant position should possess a strong background in graphic design, with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop). Experience in creating educational materials, particularly in the health sector, is highly desirable. The consultant should have a keen eye for detail, creativity, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Familiarity with WHO branding guidelines and experience in designing for international audiences will be advantageous.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in design or public health communication will be considered a plus.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 3-5 years of professional experience in graphic design, with a focus on creating educational or training materials. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the health sector, is preferred. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all materials will be developed in this language. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the South-East Asia Region, such as Hindi or Bengali, would be considered an asset.
