Job Overview:
The Computing Engineer position at CERN involves joining a dynamic team of IT engineers responsible for managing over 500 servers and supporting a vast user community with more than 10,000 Windows and 3,000 Mac endpoint devices. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Computing Engineer include managing endpoint device security for both Windows and macOS systems, which encompasses the operation of Antivirus and Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) solutions. The engineer will deploy, operate, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments across development, testing, and production stages. Additionally, the role involves developing and maintaining service management and automation tools using Microsoft .NET and PowerShell, conducting security audits to drive improvements in client-server protocols and security measures, and configuring endpoint devices and application installation packages. The engineer will also contribute to configuration management and automation efforts using tools such as Intune, MECM, and PowerShell DSC. Furthermore, the role requires deploying and maintaining Windows Server services that support enterprise applications, assessing workload evolution for potential cloud deployment, and implementing monitoring tools and procedures to ensure system performance and incident detection.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in deploying, operating, and troubleshooting endpoint security solutions, particularly Antivirus and EDR systems. Experience in administering database server environments is essential, along with a background in software development or scripting for the Windows platform using Microsoft .NET and PowerShell. Proficiency in Windows systems administration is required, and familiarity with automation and configuration management in Windows environments is considered an advantage. A security mindset, understanding of database fundamentals, and knowledge of Windows client and server administration are also important qualifications. Additionally, candidates should have good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders. Familiarity with Active Directory, OS deployment, and common Microsoft enterprise services is a plus.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT, Computing, Software Engineering, or a related field. Applicants must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation by the application deadline. It is important to note that applicants without a university degree or those holding a PhD are not eligible for this position.
