Job Overview: The Safeguarding & Code of Conduct Specialist position is focused on ensuring compliance with DRC’s Code of Conduct Reporting Mechanism (CoCRM) and safeguarding procedures within Nigeria. This role is pivotal in developing country strategies that translate into actionable plans and daily tasks. The Specialist will work closely with the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director, managers, and the Regional Safeguarding & Code of Conduct Coordinator to foster a culture of adherence to the code of conduct. Responsibilities include maintaining the CoCRM, referring survivors to appropriate services, conducting investigations, and collaborating with safeguarding stakeholders to disseminate safeguarding policies and activities. The position requires frequent visits to various DRC locations in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding practices in the organization’s operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Safeguarding & Code of Conduct Specialist include:
Complaint Registration: Setting up and managing complaint tracks (hotline, email, etc.), advising reporting individuals on DRC’s CoCRM structure, and registering complaints in the Code of Conduct Tracking Tool.
Investigation Lead and Support: Conducting internal investigations, producing high-quality reports, and monitoring investigations on behalf of the Regional Safeguarding & Code of Conduct Office.
Collaboration with Nigeria Teams: Coordinating with program and MEAL teams to uphold accountability towards affected populations, advising management on safeguarding requirements, and delivering PSEAH training sessions.
Compliance: Working with the Risk and Compliance Specialist to update compliance plans, evaluate compliance risks, and build capacity within the team.
Regular monitoring and spot checks of partner support functions to ensure compliance with agreed standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least three years of directly related experience in safeguarding and Code of Conduct operations. They should demonstrate experience in influencing senior management and stakeholders, conducting internal investigations, and delivering training sessions. A strong understanding of safeguarding and PSEA standards, along with a survivor-centered approach in handling allegations of Sexual Harassment (SH) and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA), is essential. Candidates must also exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Hausa, along with a commitment to DRC’s values and Code of Conduct.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in a relevant field is required for this position. This educational background should provide the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to effectively manage safeguarding and Code of Conduct operations within the organization.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in safeguarding and Code of Conduct operations. Candidates should have a proven track record of conducting and monitoring internal investigations, particularly in complex contexts, and should be adept at developing and delivering training sessions.
Languages: Fluency in both written and spoken Hausa and English is mandatory for this role. Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication with stakeholders and for the successful execution of safeguarding responsibilities.
Additional Notes: The position is a national contract, starting in June or July 2026, with a duration of one year, renewable based on performance and funding. The employment band is NM-G Level 2, and the role requires frequent travel to various DRC locations within Nigeria.
