Job Overview:
The Programme Support Officer (National UN Volunteer Specialist) position is designed to provide focused support on environmental and sustainability issues while also contributing to related thematic areas. The role involves assisting in the coordination and preparation of support to the government of Kuwait, particularly in light of the current regional crisis. The officer will work closely with various teams within the UNDP Country Office to develop integrated responses to the crisis, emphasizing data collection, analysis, research, and program coordination. The position aims to enhance environmental preparedness systems, improve monitoring and risk assessment capacities, and support national efforts to mitigate potential environmental impacts. The UN Volunteer will engage in various tasks, including data analysis, research, and stakeholder engagement, to ensure evidence-based decision-making and effective technical assistance delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Programme Support Officer include:
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Supporting rapid assessments of environmental risks, analyzing environmental trends, consolidating quantitative and qualitative data, contributing to data cleaning and statistical analysis, developing dashboards and visualizations, and integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Research and Knowledge Development: Assisting in the development of analytical inputs and knowledge products, preparing analytical briefs and technical reports, contributing to benchmarking exercises, conducting desk research, and documenting lessons learned.
  • Programme and Project Support: Coordinating activities across workstreams, organizing meetings and workshops, engaging with stakeholders, tracking progress, and supporting the development of environmental initiatives.
  • Administrative and Operational Support: Providing logistical coordination for events, maintaining project documentation, supporting financial tracking, and ensuring timely follow-up on action points.
  • Communication and Reporting: Preparing internal and external communication materials, contributing to reporting on program progress, ensuring documentation quality, and preparing briefing notes for senior management.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Programme Support Officer position include a strong background in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field. Candidates should possess excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to collect and analyze data effectively. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for preparing reports and engaging with stakeholders. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate adaptability, teamwork, and professionalism in their approach to work. Familiarity with UNDP's mission and objectives, as well as experience in project coordination, will be advantageous.

Educational Background:

This position is a National UN Volunteer role, which means it is intended for candidates who are residents of Kuwait. The role is full-time and offers a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of KWD 827.08, along with annual and learning leaves, free medical and life insurance, and access to various learning platforms. The position is designed to support the UNDP's efforts in Kuwait, particularly in relation to environmental preparedness and sustainability initiatives.
