Job Overview: This internship is a full-time position designed for a duration of six months, requiring 35 hours of work per week. The intern will work three days in the office and two days remotely, providing flexibility while ensuring active participation in the UNIC's initiatives. The intern will support the implementation, monitoring, and assessment of the UNIC’s 2026 Outreach Programme, which aims to enhance the visibility and understanding of the UN's work in the Caribbean. The intern will work under the supervision of the UNIC’s Director and National Information Officer, gaining valuable experience in international communications, outreach strategies, and public engagement. This role is ideal for individuals interested in advocacy, communications, and the workings of international organizations, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that impact communities across the Caribbean.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the UNIC's outreach efforts. Key duties include:
Assisting in the research, selection, and compilation of news content for the UNIC’s weekday media monitoring reports.
Conducting background research and assisting in the design and graphic design of a UNIC-produced handbook to facilitate outreach activities.
Supporting the design and execution of an internal communications campaign to promote the use of the Outreach Handbook among UN Caribbean offices and agencies.
Assisting in the planning and production of outreach activities and products, which includes drafting text, creating presentations, and managing audience feedback mechanisms.
Designing and distributing audience feedback surveys to evaluate the impact of outreach activities.
Contributing to the planning and execution of the UN Caribbean Five Years Forward campaign for the Sustainable Development Goals.
Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisors, which may include administrative tasks and participation in team meetings.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first-level university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, and knowledge of design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva is desirable. An interest in outreach, advocacy, and communications monitoring and evaluation is also preferred. Additionally, candidates should exhibit the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in their final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application. This educational background ensures that candidates possess the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills relevant to the internship's focus areas.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should ideally have some relevant volunteer experience or academic projects that demonstrate their interest and skills in communications, outreach, or related fields. Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
