Job Overview: The Local Consultant position is a strategic role aimed at supporting the design and adaptation of the Guy Talk programme in Trinidad and Tobago. This initiative is part of a broader Technical Cooperation project focused on promoting gender equality and addressing gender-based violence in the Caribbean. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that the programme's content and facilitation methods are culturally relevant and operationally feasible, taking into account the unique social and institutional contexts of Trinidad and Tobago. The Guy Talk programme is an evidence-based intervention that utilizes digital platforms to promote healthier relationship practices among men. The consultant will work closely with the Gender and Diversity Division to implement and refine the programme, ensuring it meets the needs of the target population while fostering regional knowledge exchange.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Local Consultant will undertake a variety of tasks including co-designing and contextualizing the Guy Talk programme, adapting materials to reflect local realities, conducting structured testing with small groups, and supporting a small-scale pilot implementation. Specific responsibilities include collaborating with the International Consultant to review existing materials, conducting feedback sessions, refining content for cultural relevance, testing digital formats, supporting participant recruitment, and preparing a finalized programme package. The consultant will also design and deliver training for facilitators, provide technical inputs during implementation, and engage with stakeholders such as the IDB and local ministries to ensure alignment with broader goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Gender Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Development Studies, or Education. Additional training in areas such as masculinities, facilitation, and community-based interventions is considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background combined with practical experience in gender equality and violence prevention programming, particularly in facilitating group interventions with men or boys. Familiarity with Trinidad and Tobago’s social dynamics and experience in digital behaviour-change interventions are highly desirable.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in a relevant field is required for this position. Candidates with additional training in masculinities, facilitation techniques, safeguarding practices, and community-based interventions will have an advantage. The educational background should support the candidate's ability to engage with gender-transformative programming and address issues related to gender-based violence effectively.
Experience: The position requires between 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in designing, adapting, and implementing gender equality or violence prevention programmes. Candidates should have experience in facilitating group-based interventions, conducting small-scale pilots, and refining programme materials based on participant feedback. A strong understanding of safeguarding and referral mechanisms is essential, as is the ability to translate research insights into practical applications. Experience with digital behaviour-change interventions is also beneficial, as is a deep understanding of the social and cultural dynamics in Trinidad and Tobago.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, to engage with participants, stakeholders, and team members. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: The contract type for this position is Products and External Services Consultant (PEC), with a duration of 7 months. The work location is remote, allowing for flexibility in how the consultant engages with the programme and stakeholders. The IDB Group values diversity and inclusion, actively encouraging applications from individuals from underrepresented groups and ensuring reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities during the interview process.
