Job Overview: The Finance Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of the UNDP Country Office in Kinshasa. This position requires a high level of accuracy and consistency in financial services, ensuring compliance with UNDP rules and regulations. The Finance Assistant will work closely with various teams within the Country Office and UNDP headquarters to facilitate effective financial management processes. The role involves implementing operational strategies, managing financial records, and ensuring proper functioning of cash and treasury management systems. The Finance Assistant is expected to contribute to knowledge sharing and capacity building within the organization, enhancing the overall financial performance of the Country Office.
Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Support implementation of operational strategies by ensuring compliance with financial processes and records according to UNDP policies. 2) Assist in the functioning of the cost-recovery system by providing inputs for preparation in Quantum. 3) Provide accounting and administrative support, including managing payment invoices, maintaining filing systems, and ensuring proper control of financial documents. 4) Ensure proper functioning of cash and treasury management systems, including reviewing cash positions and managing bank reconciliations. 5) Participate in knowledge building and sharing by training operations and project staff on finance-related topics. The Finance Assistant will also perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of financial management principles and practices, with the ability to apply these concepts in practical situations. Proficiency in financial software and systems is essential, along with strong analytical skills to evaluate financial data and present findings effectively. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to customer service and possess excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in financial management or accounting would be an advantage, as would training in UNDP financial policies and procedures.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably within an international organization or development context. Experience with financial management systems and processes, as well as familiarity with UNDP operations, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the working language in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international teams and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is exclusively open to individuals with refugee status in the DRC. The role is based in Kinshasa, which is classified as a family duty station, allowing staff members to be accompanied by their families.
