Job Overview: The logistics-officer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Officer position is critical for ensuring effective WHO country presence and implementing WHO country cooperation strategies that align with Member States' health priorities. The incumbent will be responsible for managing logistics operations in emergency contexts, ensuring timely provision of quality supplies and equipment for health emergency operations. This role requires collaboration with UN partners and involves planning, facilitating customs clearance, managing inventory, and ensuring safe living conditions for WHO-deployed staff. The Logistics Officer will also support the setup and functioning of health facilities and monitor supply management and storage conditions, contributing to improved health outcomes in the affected areas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and execute the timely provision of quality supplies and equipment for health emergency operations in compliance with WHO regulations.
Facilitate customs clearance, reception, transportation, storage, and distribution of supplies to affected populations.
Manage WHO warehouses and inventory, implementing stock control mechanisms.
Maintain essential emergency equipment stockpiles, including personal deployment materials and IT equipment.
Oversee the management of the WHE fleet, including planning and monitoring fleet movements and vehicle maintenance.
Ensure safe living conditions for WHO-deployed staff in collaboration with the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Field Security Officer.
Support the setup and functioning of health facilities and mobile medical activities, including vaccination campaigns.
Ensure water, sanitation, and infection control activities are in place for all supported health facilities.
Conduct regular field assessments to monitor supply management and storage conditions. 1
Report regularly to the emergency team on needs, gaps, and problems, proposing remedial actions. 1
Perform any other related duties as required by the functional supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Essential qualifications include a first university degree in public or business administration, logistic management, engineering, pharmacy, or a related field from an accredited institution. Desirable qualifications include professional certification in transport, distribution, and supply chain management, as well as training in information management systems related to logistics and supply management.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a first university degree in relevant fields such as public or business administration, logistics management, engineering, or pharmacy from an accredited institution. Additional professional certifications in logistics or supply chain management are desirable.
Experience: Candidates should have at least five years of related experience at national and international levels in managing emergency logistics operations and supply operations in international organizations. Experience in supporting emergency humanitarian operations is essential, with prior working experience with WHO, UN, or recognized humanitarian organizations being highly desirable. Knowledge of import/export and customs administration is also beneficial.
Languages: Expert knowledge of English is essential for this position. Intermediate knowledge of Arabic is desirable, as it will facilitate communication in the regions where the position is based.
