Job Overview:
The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Economist Officer, engaging in a variety of tasks that support economic analysis and data management. The role is designed for individuals who are either enrolled in or have completed their final year of an undergraduate program or are pursuing a postgraduate degree. The intern will be expected to assist in the collection, integration, and validation of economic, fiscal, financial, and social databases. Additionally, they will contribute to the development and updating of analytical matrices, time series, strategic indicators, and reports that track structural trends, territorial gaps, and sectoral dynamics related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The position also involves creating advanced visualizations such as graphs, pivot tables, dashboards, and executive presentations to facilitate the interpretation of results for strategic reports and discussions with national counterparts. Furthermore, the intern will support the systematization and preliminary analysis of information from official sources to develop inputs on financing for development, fiscal sustainability, public and private investment, and financing gaps related to the SDGs. The intern will also assist in updating data repositories, monitoring tools, and tracking panels linked to the Cooperation Framework and the UNCA process, while performing other related support functions as assigned by the Office's strategic priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the collection, integration, cleaning, and validation of economic, fiscal, financial, and social databases.
  • Contribute to the construction and updating of analytical matrices, time series, strategic indicators, and reports that allow for the monitoring of structural trends, territorial gaps, and sectoral dynamics linked to the SDGs.
  • Develop advanced visualizations (graphs, pivot tables, dashboards, and executive presentations) that facilitate the interpretation of results for strategic reports and dialogue spaces with national counterparts.
  • Assist in the systematization and preliminary analysis of information from official sources for the preparation of inputs on financing for development, fiscal sustainability, public and private investment, and financing gaps of the SDGs.
  • Provide support in updating data repositories, monitoring tools, and tracking panels related to the Cooperation Framework and the UNCA process.
  • Perform other support functions related to economic analysis and data management as assigned within the strategic priorities of the Office.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of an undergraduate university program (minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent), or (b) be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). For this internship, studies in economics or related disciplines are highly desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Program do not need to have professional work experience; however, it is essential to have a field of study closely related to the type of internship being applied for. Applicants must be students in their final year of their first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), or students in a master's or doctoral program or equivalent, or have completed a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree. Applicants should have knowledge in macroeconomics, microeconomics, and data analysis.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in or having completed a bachelor's degree or equivalent in economics or a related field. It is crucial that the field of study is closely related to the internship role, ensuring that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to perform the tasks effectively.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in economic analysis and data management. This internship is designed for students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in a professional setting.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish, both oral and written, is required for this internship. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations, so proficiency in these languages is advantageous. Knowledge of another official UN language is a plus, as the UN recognizes Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish as its official languages.
