Job Overview:
The position of Computing Engineer is situated within the Analytics, Streaming and Monitoring section at CERN. This section is responsible for providing messaging, data streaming, monitoring platforms, and frontend analytics services to various CERN communities. The role involves facilitating data collection, transport, manipulation, processing, interactive data analysis, and central reporting solutions. The Computing Engineer will be expected to operate and develop interactive analytics infrastructure, such as SWAN and Jupyter Notebooks, across multiple product lifecycle environments. Additionally, the role includes configuring and supporting analytics and visualization solutions, ensuring high levels of performance, availability, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The engineer will also provide consultancy and assistance to end users in developing analytics use-cases, support analysis facilities infrastructure and services, and share domain and technical expertise through mentorship and training.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Computing Engineer will be responsible for the operations and development of interactive analytics infrastructure, including SWAN and Jupyter Notebooks. Key duties include configuring and supporting analytics and visualization solutions, monitoring system health and performance, and ensuring high levels of performance and security. The engineer will provide consultancy and assistance to end users in developing analytics use-cases, support analysis facilities infrastructure and services, and share technical expertise through mentorship and training. The role also involves troubleshooting and monitoring Linux-based systems and deployments, as well as developing and maintaining Python applications, particularly web-based systems. The engineer will be expected to work collaboratively with various CERN communities, including the Experiments and Accelerator sectors, to implement data analysis solutions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Computer Science, Other Science Disciplines, or a related field. They should have experience in operating large-scale production Kubernetes environments and possess technical and troubleshooting skills with Kubernetes components, web interfaces, and data analysis engines such as Apache Spark. Experience in DevOps operations, particularly with Linux systems and configuration management in Agile development environments or cloud-native deployments, is essential. Candidates should also have experience in developing and maintaining Python applications, especially web-based systems, and familiarity with database and data mining architectures, SQL, and system configuration tools.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Computer Science, Other Science Disciplines, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for the technical competencies and responsibilities associated with the role of Computing Engineer at CERN.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in operating large-scale production Kubernetes environments, as well as technical and troubleshooting skills with Kubernetes components and data analysis engines. Experience in DevOps operations, particularly with Linux systems, is crucial, along with configuration management experience in Agile development environments or cloud-native deployments. Additionally, experience in developing and maintaining Python applications, particularly web-based systems, is required.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory, and candidates should demonstrate a commitment to learning French. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage but is not required.

Additional Notes:
The position is a limited duration contract for 3 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The job requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, with hybrid work flexibility. The role may involve working during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as required by the needs of the organization. The job grade is classified as 6-7, and the reference for this position is IT-DA-ASM-2026-95-LD.
