Job Overview:
The Consultant position at UNESCO-IBE is designed for highly qualified international experts who will contribute to various curriculum-related projects. The role involves providing technical support to Member States in curriculum renewal processes, which are increasingly in demand. The selected experts will work under the supervision of the IBE Director and Program Specialist, focusing on areas such as curriculum framework review, subject curriculum enhancement, teacher education program alignment, learning assessment, and curriculum evaluation. The position requires a strong commitment to improving educational quality and relevance, with a focus on adapting curricula to meet changing societal needs. Experts will be mobilized on a short- to medium-term basis, engaging in both remote and in-person activities, and will be expected to deliver high-quality outputs that align with the IBE's mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Supporting the revision and development of national curriculum frameworks, conducting international comparative analyses, and preparing analytical reports with recommendations for improvement.
  • Reviewing and enhancing subject area curricula, particularly in the humanities and STEM fields, and developing training resources for capacity development activities.
  • Analyzing teacher education programs to ensure alignment with curriculum expectations and strengthening teacher competencies for effective curriculum implementation.
  • Reviewing national learning assessment frameworks and providing recommendations for alignment with curriculum expectations, as well as developing training resources for capacity building.
  • Evaluating existing curriculum evaluation mechanisms and supporting the development of robust evaluation frameworks.
  • Designing and delivering capacity development activities for national teams, providing ongoing mentoring and technical support, and developing training modules to ensure sustained capacity development.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (PhD or Master’s) in Education, Curriculum Studies, Learning Assessment, Teacher Education, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience is required, specifically in curriculum development, implementation, or evaluation, as well as in designing and implementing competency-based or standards-based curriculum approaches. Candidates should demonstrate hands-on experience in producing curriculum-related outputs, conducting international comparative analyses, and training national education teams. Familiarity with high-performing education systems and international assessment contexts is crucial, along with experience working in the Global South and with international organizations being an asset.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree, either a PhD or a Master’s, in fields related to education, curriculum studies, learning assessment, or teacher education. This educational background is essential to ensure that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to curriculum development and evaluation processes.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in areas such as curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and teacher education program design. This experience should include a proven track record of producing concrete curriculum-related outputs and engaging in international comparative analyses to inform educational practices. Candidates should also have experience in training and mentoring national education teams, particularly in contexts that require adaptation of international best practices to local needs.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNESCO. Knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset, as it may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with specific Member States and contribute to projects in Arabic-speaking regions.
