Job Posting Organization:
The position is located within the Supply Chain Planning and Performance Management Section of the Enabling and Outreach Service (EOS) in the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) at the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ) in New York. The Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide comprehensive operational support, advisory services, and solutions to various operating entities across the UN Secretariat, including departments, field missions, and regional commissions. The OSCM encompasses several divisions, including the Logistics Division, Procurement Division, and Uniformed Capabilities Support Division, all aimed at enhancing supply chain operations and performance management.

Job Overview:
The Logistics Officer, Planning is responsible for planning and coordinating global supply chain requirements, preparing logistics and contingency plans, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of peacekeeping cargoes and personnel. The role involves developing methodologies and tools for effective logistics execution, analyzing data from ERP systems, and creating operational and strategic reporting solutions. The officer will also assess supply chain risks, coordinate scenario planning exercises, and provide logistics support during crisis events. This position requires collaboration with various teams to ensure that logistics operations meet the needs of UN missions and comply with gender-specific requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Officer will contribute to the planning and coordination of global supply chain requirements, prepare logistics and contingency plans, and develop methodologies for effective logistics execution. Responsibilities include analyzing historical consumption data, assessing supply chain risks, coordinating logistics support during crises, and monitoring supplier performance metrics. The officer will also prepare reports on supply chain management, participate in technical survey missions, and ensure that logistics operations are aligned with the needs of various UN entities. Additionally, the officer will guide and supervise junior staff and ensure that all logistics requirements are met efficiently and effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of supply chain management and logistics operations, with the ability to analyze data and prepare supply plans and reports. Professionalism, planning and organizing skills, and client orientation are essential competencies for this role. The officer should demonstrate a commitment to gender perspectives and the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in supply chain, logistics, business administration, public administration, engineering, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in supply chain management or logistics operations is required, with at least two years of experience in developing data analytics and visualization tools for supply chain management. Experience with ERP systems, particularly SAP, and providing support services in supply chain management for field operations is desirable.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations, and proficiency in French is considered an asset.
