Job Overview:
The Project/Grant Accountant will play a crucial role in coordinating and implementing the ACROSS Project's financial policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with CRS' accounting standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and donor regulations. This position involves performing essential accounting services, including documenting financial transactions, preparing account entries, and delivering financial reporting services throughout the project lifecycle. The accountant will be responsible for either payable or receivable transactions, depending on the project's complexity. The role requires a proactive approach to financial management, ensuring that all financial activities align with established standards and contribute to the project's success. The accountant will also provide training and capacity-building support to project staff and partners, enhancing their understanding of financial compliance and management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project/Grant Accountant will be responsible for setting and monitoring sound accounting and financial reporting procedures for ACROSS project subrecipients and partners. Key responsibilities include ensuring the setup and maintenance of all necessary data for processing financial transactions in the Insight financial accounting package, reviewing and validating supporting documentation before processing transactions, and recording financial transactions following appropriate authorizations. The accountant will analyze various accounts to detect irregularities, advise on corrective actions, and prepare necessary adjustments. Additionally, the role involves assessing and monitoring subrecipient financial management processes, maintaining communication regarding disbursement schedules, preparing periodic and ad hoc financial reports, assisting with budget maintenance, and providing training on financial accounting policies. The accountant will also perform treasury duties, such as cash payments and forecasts, while ensuring segregation of duties. Other tasks may be assigned by the Deputy Head of Finance and the ACROSS Program Manager.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business administration with accounting courses, or a relevant accounting qualification (CPA/ACCA/ICAN or equivalent). A Master’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of financial management principles and practices, as well as experience in accounting software and financial reporting. Knowledge of public donor regulations, particularly those related to the PATRIP Foundation, is preferred. Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, is essential, along with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Candidates should demonstrate ethical conduct, proactive problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work collaboratively in diverse teams.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration with relevant accounting coursework. Candidates with a professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or ICAN are also eligible. A Master’s degree in accounting or finance is considered an advantage, as it indicates a higher level of expertise in financial management and accounting principles.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three to five years of experience in a similar role, preferably within an international or local NGO, or in a financial or banking institution. This experience should include responsibilities related to financial management, accounting, and reporting, demonstrating the ability to handle complex financial transactions and compliance requirements effectively.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for performing the job functions and communicating effectively with project staff, partners, and stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the regions in which CRS operates.

Additional Notes:
This position may require travel up to 50%, depending on project needs. The role does not have supervisory responsibilities.
