Job Overview:
The position of Interpreter requires the individual contractor to provide high-quality interpretation services during a two-hour webinar. This webinar is specifically aimed at National Preventive Mechanisms (NPMs) and SPT Members from European countries. The contractor will be responsible for ensuring that the translation from English to Russian is not only accurate but also clear and coherent, facilitating effective communication among participants. The role is crucial as it supports the UN's mission to promote human rights and enhance understanding of UN mechanisms among diverse stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide simultaneous interpretation from English to Russian during the webinar.
  • Ensure that the interpretation is clear, coherent, and accurately reflects the content of the speakers.
  • Prepare for the webinar by reviewing relevant materials and understanding the context of the discussions.
  • Collaborate with the technical team to ensure that all necessary equipment is functioning properly prior to the event.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality throughout the interpretation process.
  • Address any technical issues that may arise during the webinar to ensure smooth communication.

Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in interpretation, specifically from English into Russian.
  • Proven knowledge of human rights issues and familiarity with UN human rights mechanisms.
  • Documented experience working as an interpreter for the United Nations or similar international organizations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex information clearly and accurately.

Educational Background:
A degree in interpretation, linguistics, or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications in interpretation or translation, particularly in the context of international relations or human rights, would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least 7 years of experience in interpretation, with a strong emphasis on English to Russian translation. Experience working in high-pressure environments, such as international conferences or UN meetings, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Mandatory languages include Russian and English. Proficiency in both languages is essential for this role, as the contractor will be interpreting in real-time during the webinar. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
