Job Overview:
The Capacity Building and Knowledge Management Intern will play a crucial role in supporting UNHCR's Sustainable Responses Service (SRS), which aims to enhance cooperation with development partners and improve the inclusion of forcibly displaced and stateless persons in development planning. The intern will assist in producing the Sustainable Responses in Practice bulletin, developing case studies for the Development Playbook, and managing the Community of Practice. This position requires strong communication and coordination skills, as the intern will be involved in organizing peer-to-peer exchanges and contributing to various capacity-building initiatives. The intern will work closely with the Partnership Officer and other team members to ensure that knowledge management processes are effectively implemented and that the content produced is of high quality and relevance to UNHCR's mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the production of the Sustainable Responses in Practice bulletin by capturing key contributions from various Bureaux and SRS, updating the Development Community of Practice SharePoint site, coordinating the editorial process, and tracking engagement with the newsletter.
  • Assist in developing new case studies for the Development Playbook by reviewing drafts, creating visuals using Canva, and organizing content on the Playbook SharePoint site.
  • Help launch the CoLAB Programme by assisting in the design and delivery of masterclasses, tracking engagement, and compiling feedback.
  • Coordinate DevUP mentorship missions in collaboration with Regional Bureaux to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Manage the Community of Practice by coordinating updates and ensuring content accuracy.
  • Organize peer-exchange learning opportunities and contribute to the Sustainable Responses Learning Series.
  • Support the design and rollout of learning initiatives and peer-to-peer exchange platforms.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
• Recent graduate or currently enrolled student in a relevant field such as International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Communications, or Refugee Studies. • Excellent spoken and written English; knowledge of another UN language, particularly French, is a strong asset. • Strong drafting and writing skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documents. • Strong coordination, communication, and time management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks efficiently. • Experience in the humanitarian or development sector, ideally involving work with forcibly displaced or stateless populations. • Ability to design simple visual materials using tools like Canva. • Good knowledge of SharePoint and other collaboration platforms.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be either recent graduates (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or current students in a graduate/undergraduate program from an accredited university. They should have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some experience in the humanitarian or development sector, ideally with a focus on forcibly displaced or stateless populations. This experience can be gained through internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to the field.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of French is highly desirable. Proficiency in other UN languages can also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time internship role with working hours from 9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. Interns who do not receive financial support from an external party will receive an allowance to help cover living expenses. Travel costs for interns engaged from outside the duty station will be reimbursed for the most economical route available. Internships typically last between two to six months, with the possibility of extension up to eight months for full-time internships and twelve months for part-time internships. Candidates are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and health insurance coverage.
