Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting UNEP FI's outreach and communications efforts aimed at engaging a broad range of financial institutions, including commercial banks, asset managers, insurers, and multi-lateral development banks. The position involves developing and executing compelling communications plans tailored for the finance sector, particularly in areas such as sustainability, nature, pollution, and human rights. The consultant will work closely with the communications team to enhance UNEP FI's visibility and effectiveness in promoting sustainable finance practices. This role is essential for ensuring that UNEP FI's initiatives are effectively communicated to its members and the wider finance industry, thereby facilitating the integration of sustainability into financial market practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for leading communications for various initiatives, particularly those related to high-profile events such as the Biodiversity COP 1
This includes creating pre, during, and post-event collateral, managing social media campaigns, and producing web content. The consultant will also collaborate with UNEP FI's communications team to plan key messaging, promote publications, and manage content for newsletters and social media channels. Additional responsibilities include convening discussions with UNEP FI members, assisting with media outreach, and maintaining communication analytics. The consultant will ensure that all communications materials are of high quality and effectively convey UNEP FI's mission and objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, media, international relations, business administration, or a related field. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree may be accepted if the candidate has at least five years of relevant experience. The consultant should have a strong understanding of communications best practices, particularly in digital communications and social media. Experience in the finance sector is highly desirable, along with proficiency in using online meeting platforms and content management systems.
Educational Background: A master’s degree in a relevant field is required, with a bachelor’s degree acceptable if accompanied by significant professional experience. The educational background should ideally include studies in communications, marketing, public relations, or environmental science, reflecting a strong foundation for the role's responsibilities.
Experience: A minimum of three years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or marketing is required. Candidates should demonstrate up-to-date proficiency with digital communications and social media best practices. Experience in the finance sector and familiarity with online content management systems and social media tools is preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory as it is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
Additional Notes: The position is remote and expected to last for five months. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Head of UNEP FI and the Co-Head of Communications. The role requires excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks across diverse projects. The consultant should have a keen interest in sustainable finance, particularly in relation to oceans, blue economy, land use, and food systems. Importantly, the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
