This role involves providing specialized technical expertise and advisory support to ensure the highest quality and effectiveness of integrated climate resilience and food systems efforts. The officer will oversee smallholder agricultural market support and climate-resilient livelihoods activities, providing strategic leadership and technical oversight to a specialized team. The position requires a proactive approach to capacity strengthening, coaching, and the implementation of projects aligned with donor requirements. Duties and Responsibilities: The Livelihoods & Resilience Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
Providing specialized technical expertise and advisory support to partners to enhance the quality of integrated climate resilience and food systems initiatives.
Overseeing the implementation of Strategic Outcome 3, ensuring that all projects are on track and aligned with donor requirements.
Identifying strategic partnerships and options for integrating digital innovations to support smallholder farmers.
Contributing to fundraising efforts by leading proposal development and preparing reports on climate change adaptation and resilience initiatives.
Advocating for the implementation of action-oriented research and documenting lessons learned for policy influence.
Representing WFP in relevant forums and engaging with donors to provide updates on project progress.
Collaborating with key partners to implement integrated strategies that enhance livelihoods and food systems.
Developing training programs for smallholder farmers to improve their skills in production and marketing. 1
Ensuring the integration of nutrition-sensitive approaches and gender mainstreaming within the portfolio of activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Livelihoods & Resilience Officer position must possess the following qualifications:
Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Social Sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, a First University Degree with an additional 8 years of relevant work experience may be considered.
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in designing and implementing programs related to Natural Resources Management, Climate Change Adaptation, Livelihoods, Food Systems, or Smallholder Agriculture Market Support.
Proven experience in community-based participatory planning, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with UN agencies and government institutions.
Strong behavioral competencies, including action management, result orientation, client-centered focus, cognitive capacity, innovation, interpersonal skills, networking, and teamwork.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an Advanced University degree in relevant fields such as International Affairs, Economics, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, or Social Sciences. Candidates with a First University Degree must also have substantial additional work experience (8 years) in related areas to qualify for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of progressive experience in relevant fields, particularly in supporting the design and implementation of programs related to Natural Resources Management, Climate Change Adaptation, Livelihoods, Food Systems, and Smallholder Agriculture Market Support. Experience working with UN agencies, government entities, and international NGOs is highly desirable, as is familiarity with community engagement and participatory planning approaches.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with a level C proficiency. If the duty station's language differs from English, proficiency in that language is also required. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Maseru, Lesotho, and reports to the Deputy CountryDirector. The role is full-time and involves significant interaction with various stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and international partners.
